Every once in a while I find a slight grammatical error on the front page. It's not that I don't understand that English is not everyone's first language, but it does lend itself to being unprofessional (or being construed that way).

Would you guys be open to the idea of giving certain people administrative rights to edit these minor errors? Or am I being too anal? ;)

Today's example:
If you haven't already bought Bioshock (be ashamed !), we guess you wondered about what happens next to the ending of the excellent playable demo. Well, no more mind-torture, here comes the answer in a eight minutes long video. Enjoy !
should read:

You're welcome to PM a mod and we'll happily correct it if it's bad. The news guys do have their own style though so I guess sometimes we're reluctant to mess too much with that. I've several work acquaintances who don't speak English as a first language and they all pluralise words where they shouldn't, minutes over minute being quite a common example but in some strange way I quite like it.

I know that's weird but that's just me.

In any case, feel free to drop one of the english mods a line if you see something of concern.

You know damn well nobody outside of the US speaks English, and it has been that way since it was invented in 1776, the 4th of July. They were so excited they could speak they shot off fireworks. Wikipedia it...

I'm gonna run in here and grasp the opportunity to say how much I think the news posts have improved - and especially how much I enjoy the contributions of you, Kudgel, whom I believe is relatively new on the site? I haven't been here as much lately so I can't quite keep track.

I think it's nice to have some positive energy around the news posts, because even though I realise it's a fan site and opinions are opinions, it's refreshing to read about a game I'm looking forward to and not having the tone of the thread set already in the news post.

The writing on the entire site - regardless of poster - seems to have gotten more objective and fun lately, while oddly the forum activity seems to have dwindled a bit. I also thoroughly enjoy the blogs, with the obvious choice of pipomantis as the fave so far. Again, Kudgel also is doing a terrific job there, and you both name games that aren't remotely obvious to anyone really. I can't speak for everyone of course, but I usually feel pretty informed on the smaller, underdog gems, and I've definitely enjoyed reading about stuff like Hagane and The Red Star of which I knew essentially nothing.

The rest of you are doing all the invisible work of course, the whole taken-for-granted stuff that make up the site, so it's difficult to specifically mention someone without misdirecting credit. So, to all of you working to get the content on the main page - you're doing a brilliant job. I must admit to missing the laid back "show"-esque GSD, but I realise you've got tons to do and waiting for content to cumulate prolly wasn't economical.

Anyway, this is getting to be a bit longer than I originally intended, so I'll just slap a big, clichéd - Keep up the great work, guys - at the end.

As an Englishman i feel its my right to tell anyone that complains about my grammar to stfu, as my damn people invented the language and I'll speak it any damn way i like.

And to you Americans, no matter how much you say you speak "American" just because you say so doesn't mean it will change the history books!! ( I know your presidents have tried enough on other subjects )

In fact they did not invent it.

Like most (modern)languages i guess you would say we (the English), or at least our ancestors, didn't create this language. In stead it evolved from many others. Either way without the english people the american people would not be speaking english today.

Oh and whoever claimed no one outside america speaks english.. I hope that was sarcastic

if we want to be technical, the noted errror concerning "eight minute" is not the only error. " what happens next to the ending of the excellent playable demo," is an other instance of improper grammar. however! such errors i have found to be far, and few between; therefore, i see no reason to mince over trifle mistakes. Our team is quite busy, and the rare mistake is not worth getting your panties up in a bunch. <--slang

De tout façon, je m'en fîche un peu, ça ne vaut pas la pein de s'inquieter de ce genre de choses. Alors, au sujet d'anglais, it's tricky, but not impossible. Hah, silly englishmen! No, honesly, England has no room to talk, your history is such that there is no room to criticize anyone.

Can someone on the english side PLEASE help me with the dates. How can we write them, and why sometimes it's "th" or "sd". I guess if the number finishes with a "th", like fourth, we would write the 4th, and same for second, like 2nd? But how can I write a date without using the Month-Date-Year format (ex : January 24, 2008).

pretty much its goes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and every other is -th. this applies the last digit, ergo, 22nd, or 31st, or typed, twenty-second, thirty-first. but, basically, after 1-10, just write the digit. im pretty sure thats the way it goes. if there's an anglophile or anglophone that can correct that, tant mieux

1st, 2nd & 3rd are special cases...then its th after the number up until the teens though note 9th and 12th have different spellings. The teens are all "teenth" (eg eighteenth) Then it settles down into the "th" pattern with 1st 2nd and 3rd being special cases as before.

Hope that helps!

first (1st)
second (2nd)
third (3rd)
fourth (4th)
fifth (5th)
...
ninth (9th)
tenth (10th)
eleventh (11th)
twelfth (12th)
thirteenth (13th)
fourteenth (14th)
...
nineteenth (19th)
twentieth (20th)
twenty-first (21st)
twenty-second (22nd)
twenty-third (23rd)
twenty-forth (21st)
twenty-fifth (22nd)
...
thirtieth (30th)
thirty-first (31st)
