It's pretty obvious that had Itachi been in top form Sasuke would've been annihilated and it makes total sense too. Sasuke nearly got taken out by Deidara and Itachi is far superior to him. I thought it was weird how well Sasuke was doing against Itachi and how not himself Itachi seemed and we now have an idea. Itachi was hurt prior to the fight and practically fighting blind lol. --- |

Itachi isn't necessarily the best leaf ninja ever and I doubt he ever was, but he's most definitely one of the most talented and powerful to ever grace the village. Who knows the real reason for Itachi's significant injuries, but maybe they weren't the type of injuries he could let heal because perhaps they would never heal. Zetsu, however, is pretty sure that Itachi is much stronger than what he showcased in his fight with Sasuke and I also thought there was something strange about Itachi not fighting better and not being able to dodge attacks that he once would've avoided very easily. Sure, Sasuke technically wins because he survived the fight and Itachi loses because he seems to have not, but I think there is no question as to who is the more superior of the 2 right now. Were Itachi in top form I think it's blatantly obvious he would've likely beat on Sasuke pretty badly. Sasuke is better, but still not on Itachi's level. My theory is that the reason Itachi was so badly hurt is because of Naruto. Naruto had already laid the ground work beforehand for Sasuke's survival in the eventual encounter that Sasuke has dedicated almost his whole life preparing for. Maybe that's why Itachi wanted to talk Naruto. He was probably going to tell him that the Oodama Rasengan he hit him with had a major impact on him and would likely prevent him from achieving his goal. Remember that time Naruto hit Itachi dead on with an Oodama Rasengan? The technique that made that perfect clone of Itachi possible was one of Pain's forbidden techniques. We saw blood from Itachi's mouth then too when Naruto hit him and Itachi seemed to have a strange look on his face afterwards as if the damage he sustained while allowing Pain to use such a technique on him was still with him. There are usually some very serious consequences that come as a result of using such forbidden techniques. What might've seemed like a very cool technique at first as long as you were willing to sacrifice someone elses life might have further consequences. That clone of both Itachi and Kisame were not normal clones. They were real physical recreations of both of them. They even had signature abilities so any damage or pain inflicted on those clones might actually carry over to the true Itachi and Kisame. Think about it, why couldn't that damage carry over? Those clones were clearly real enough to have Itachi and Kisame's real abilities so perhaps those clones created as a result of Pain's forbidden technique were far more real than anyone originally anticipated. If my theory is correct then Kisame should also be revealed to be in a bad way from what Gai did to him awhile back. Another suspicion I have is that the 30% of chakra that Pain borrowed from Kisame and Itachi actually went to Pain and was never regained by either Itachi or Kisame. It may hold some significance to the name Pain. He thrives on it because the Pain of others is a benefit to him. The 6 shinobi we saw fight Jiraiya were all examples of the very same technique that Pain used on Kisame and Itachi being used on other Shinobi against their will just like Pain did to Sasori's subordinates. Pain said to Jiraiya that the name Pain is a name that is used to refer to all six bodies. Meaning they are all merely just cannon fodder for him. He'll use them to kill an opponent, but if they die then so what? It only serves to strengthen whoever is the real identity behind those six bodies we saw fighting Jiraiya. Which I suspect is likely Nagato. It's pretty much the ultimate slap in the face to Sasuke. He only escapes with his life now because the very person he wants nothing to do with anymore, Naruto, injured Itachi significantly with that new Rasengan. --- |

2008-03-23 20:14:36 after rereading you post opt, it kinder makes sense but has its flaws. the special clone jutsu used by pain was performed ages ago. surely itachi and kisame should have fully recovered from the chackra they gave out. the damages on the clones had no direct effect on the real ninjas, the only real contact the real ones had with the clones was controlling them from a distance (kinder like telepathy). after the clones are destroyed (that is run out of chakra) they show the real ones walking away having saved their purpose which was to delay team kakashi. --- |

2008-03-25 01:25:38 ^^ oh really ! then kakashi should have long ago seized to be a ninja since his sharigan constatly depletes his chackra. c'mon optmusv2, are you saying chackra cannot be replenished??? if that where the case itach wouldn't be able to peform jutsu since his ametirasu, and tsukami(sp) took a huge chunk of his chackra in part 1 when confroted by j-man forcing him to run away. so sasuke won't be able to recover since his virtually out of chackra. is that what you saying opt, cause thats wrong , chackra can be replenished, kakashi is testament of this because of the amount of jutsu he does in part2 compared to part1 if his chackra had not increased i bet you he wouldn't have lasted against kakuzu --- |

The fact that he has shown up with a new body (one that has entirely different piercings from the body he lost) is significant because it shows this guy is a lot more dangerous than anyone previously imagined. The Rinnegan is more powerful than previously suspected. It's also interesting because, we don't know if this new sixth will have the same abilities that the previous sixth body had or will it have entirely new abilities. The Rinnegan may even be able to fully utilize other shinobi's bloodline limit abilities. You might not think much of it, but I think it's important to his character development. The guy is like a mini ninja army. --- |
