Edit: Also, if they ever decide to start using HDCP, the "cheap" PS3 won't be displaying those movies in 1080p atleast. |

04/09/2006 à 19:32:36 En réponse à lefte3 (04/09/2006 à 18:46:16) Posté par lefte3 the CPU isn't HDCP compatible or not, there is no such thing on a CPU. the video card, the connector, and the display. thats it. the cpu isn't "hdcp compatible". You don't know what you're talking about. the extra chip I'm talking about is a specific chip required for hdcp compatibility that has to be on the videocard when dealing w/ pcs that actually does the hdcp encoding/decoding. only some of the ati cards actually have them, even though the gpu's are hdcp-capable, without that chip it doesn't do it. http://store.4linkcomm.com/hdmatohdmago1.html If you think that there is a difference between the $5 hdmi cable and the $100 ones then you're just the kind of sucker the guys selling the $100 cables are looking for. Well a nitwit like you may not know what hes looking for, but a $5 cable will have shitty drop out and signal degradation. "even without the digital-only flag, they won't give you 1080p via analog for movies, period." Sony disagree with you as they have said several time thats the PS3 will output movies in 1080p via component. (granted Sony lie, but then Blu-Ray is their baby why would they create such a nasty lie :P) |

04/09/2006 à 20:04:11 En réponse à Jollipop (04/09/2006 à 19:32:36) Posté par Jollipop Ok clever clogs, the PS3 and 360 and no doubt PC's will use the CPU as their decoder, so how will they stop people ripping the data from the disc decoding it via a CPU and dumping it back on the hard drive ? (ready to be copied to a disc) Well a nitwit like you may not know what hes looking for, but a $5 cable will have shitty drop out and signal degradation. "even without the digital-only flag, they won't give you 1080p via analog for movies, period." Sony disagree with you as they have said several time thats the PS3 will output movies in 1080p via component. (granted Sony lie, but then Blu-Ray is their baby why would they create such a nasty lie :P) I honestly don't understand why someone would say something that they obviously don't know about, and doesn't even make sense if you think about it. I beg you, please look up the HDCP-compatible graphics cards and see if any of them say you need "HDCP in the cpu". or go to cyberlinks website and read the specs for their hd dvd and blu-ray player software and see if it requires an hdcp compatible processor. i'll wait. actually, you don't have to waste your time, because none of them say such a thing, because no such thing exists. If you believe a digital signal can't be transmitted over a $5 cable, then you my friend are the nitwit. There's no such thing as signal degradation. It's digital, you either get it or you don't period. You've never used one and you don't know how they work, please stop talking. You don't don't get movie playback in 1080p via analog, period. You can read the sony website right now and see that, so I have no idea why you would even argue something easily disproven. |

04/09/2006 Ã 21:40:32 please stop talking. You really think they will allow people to rip the video content like that ? Come on! (the main reason companies want to move to Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is to stop piracy) Digital signals can loose siginal strength and unlike analogue signals once it's gone its gone for good. You buy your $5 cable i will buy my more expensive one, one that doesn't fall apart. |

What in the world is the purpose behind this peripheral? I understand why the PS3 benefits from HDMI (uncompressed audio, for one)--but even with the HD-DVD accessory, isn't output limited to 720p anyway? If so--what in the world would be the purpse behind this? |

05/09/2006 à 05:45:23 En réponse à Optimusv2 (05/09/2006 à 04:48:30) Posté par Acert93 Hey Grift, Not a lot of info to go by. Some suggest it was misplaced. Which makes sense in that Xenos outputs the frame to the memory and the WebTV groups scalar chip does the output. To my knowledge, from chatting with Dave Baumann, the 360s scalar seems to be analog and not digital. Thus you have VGA, Component, Composit, S-Video, etc -- all analog. So if this is an HDMI cable (no sound????) for the 360, it would have to be some analog-to-digital converter... if the info from ATI is correct, which they are VERY tight lipped. (e.g. Memexport on Xenos is basically Streamout, i.e. part of the D3D10 workflow, but this was not known until recently... why is this relevant? Hardware tesselation + Streamout + Unified Shaders that are flexible basically approximate Geometry Shaders, at least some of the basic concepts... yet this info is not easy to come by). Here are my theories. 1. It was misplaced. 2. It is a cable for the NEW 360 SKU. I can 100% confirm by 2 sources that the 360 IS getting a model with an HDMI port. 3. It is a converter, analog-to-digital, and there is NO benefit... Less the few TVs that have/will have DVI but no Component. Anyhow, none of that probably answers your question, but maybe that wets your mouth? Atleast I now am fairly certain that I don't care one way or another about this issue. |
