2007-01-22 19:37:30 I'll wait until I see some actual gameplay..so far so good though. Not bad for a dead franchise. |

2007-01-22 20:10:27 Wow, it does look on par with Crysis, it does look too good to be true though |

2007-01-22 20:11:19 Yes but you didn't miss much. Turok 3 and onward are basically irrelevant though. --- |

In my admitably PC centric point of view, Halo was the first console FPS really worth playing. That includes Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Turok, Time Splitters, etc. |

2007-01-22 20:24:12 I see what you mean, though I didn't really have a problem with controls and stuff. Since N64 was all 3D accelerated (before PC games were) it was also a stunner from that perspective. Especially the water was just gob smackingly beautiful. --- |

2007-01-22 20:31:15 3DFx's first Voodoo graphics card hit the market in 1996, a year earlier than Goldeneye and Turok were released on the Nintendo 64..so if the N64 beat the PC to accelerated 3D graphics, it wasn't by much. |

2007-01-22 20:51:43 Well, N64 came out in march 96, and even the games that did benefit from 3DFx at the time were no match for the graphics produced by the console. I remember seeing the PC port of G-Police running on an nvidia card and thinking that was the first game that really smashed any console counterpart. --- |

2007-01-22 21:22:23 You really think that Goldeneye has significantly better graphics than the OpenGL version of Quake 1? I don't, I think Goldeneye is (and was) a mess visually. |

2007-01-22 21:28:03 Eeek, no, Bond always looked terrible to me, but that was more of a design thing really. It was like the early 3D NHL games where they wrapped a photo of the player around a squareish poly-head. What I meant by location based damage (was a bit misguiding there) was how you shoot someone in the leg and they react to that. Shoot them in the face and they go "ow, my face" and grab their noggin'. --- |

It does look good, but I'll wait for some actual gameplay screenshots. Simon: Monolith were the kings of the light hearted shooter. Blood, Shogo, and No One Lives Forever are all very fine examples of this. Bloods humor remains unmatched, a damn shame that Blood 2 sucked. |

2007-01-22 21:58:11 Definitely not on par with Crysis. I think the only comparison is the artstyle, but all in all Crysis has it beat. --- |

2007-01-22 22:04:11 In reply to GriftGFX (2007-01-22 21:31:16) Yeah, I wonder why it did though. I had it actually, and I'm still puzzled as to why and how it went wrong. It's almost an okay game in many ways, and the writing is still technically really funny and cool, but it's like it was a neglected brother to Shogo, tech wise. Huge shame indeed. --- |

Turok 3 and onward are basically irrelevant though. @ Grift: While 007 has some weak points, it also did a LOT very well. And the week points, at the time, were still pretty good. The depth of the modes, as well the the story driven with excellent AI scripting for the time. The variety of missions and objectives was a lot of fun, as well as the large variety in sceneries. As well as gadgets and weapons w/ secondary modes. And there is no denying the instant fun of 4 people in a room playing together--something bulky PCs have always had issues with. As for controls, 007 offered a lot of variety and options -- even dual analog sticks. It worked for its design imo. As a big PC gamer at the time as well I would say I personally enjoyed 007 more than Q1 and Q2. They were good, but also lacking a lot of the things that made 007 geat. They had nice graphics and nice KB/MS input, but design wise I really prefer 007. HL1, on the other hand, with TFC totally killed 007 ;) --- |

2007-01-23 16:28:35 Ack. You bring shame to PC gamers everywhere. Quake 1 DM is much more playable today than Goldeneye, that should tell you something. |
