It also mentions they are using Nvidia's CG, but also some new library that has not been made available to third party devs yet. .... That article is 100% legit. Believe it or not it's your problem, but the author is well known here in France, and the event itself happened for sure. --- |

2007-02-19 08:27:01 Did I read that right, the E3 teaser was a target render pretty much, but now they are near the teasers quality? --- |

2007-02-19 09:44:52 In reply to kenshin2418 (2007-02-19 08:27:01) Also translated by Blim It says a lot of technical stuff, without going into too much details though. Like there are 3 2GB partitions on the PS3 HD for temporary file swapping (*not* installation), just like on the old Xbox in fact. It also say ND are using their own physics engine, but they are not sure yet if it was a good idea to do so or not, because physics are hard. Lots of streaming, and data redundancy on the bluray disc. That article is 100% legit. Believe it or not it's your problem, but the author is well known here in France, and the event itself happened for sure. OMFG, they slightly downgraded the shaders. PS3 is doomed right? WHO THE HELL CARES? They aimed slightly too high, it happens all the time in game development, especially for titles that have been started even before the final specs have been released. And by ohter guys on Gaf who know french Me_Marcadet: All the info I can translate and report : 60 people working on Uncharted, 14 programmers on the same hierarchy and 2 lead programmers, 5/6 designers for the gameplay and the levels structure and the rest are artists. There are 20 people working on development tool but not specialy on uncharted (maybe another project ?) Beta tester are very important for Balestra and they work close to the development team. They outsource the animation ( it seems there is 60 min of CG video but it can be for motion capture, the article isn't very clear about that ) and audio Sony give sa lot of freedom and the don't interfer with the development. ND have always respected the delay on their games. They are working on uncharted since more than 2 years with a little team at the beginning. They communicate and share a lot with another sony studio like Insomniacs (Balestra considers them like first party), sucker punch, Guerrilla games and Santa Monica. The gameplay is their first prirotity. He says that nowadays, all the studio can do impressive stuff on a technical point but gameplay is a lot harder. If they have a godd idea, no matter how it is harder to do with the technic, they continue to achieve the idea. There are other technical stuff on Cell and the streaming technology that I can't report in english. f@luS: history of the guy (little) theyre 60 working on the game , with 14 programmer including (2 lead and 12 classics) He talks about the debug and beta test. Sony trust ND so theyre never under some pression , theyre totally free. THey talk a lot within differents studio ( Santa monica , Insomniac , Sucker punch (? sly raccon) , and guerilla) He doesnt want to talk about the cost. They have some exclusives feature in the sdk that sony is trying to give to the 3rd party. Theyre taking 3 weeks off per year (end) that explain this interview) The post prod started 2 years ago Heavy use of the spe *Hes saying the PS3 hdd is having 3*2go as a temp buffer* One hour of cinematics |

2007-02-19 18:00:47 Well, certain aspects of it do, but the character model is ace. We had this "downgradeton" covered in the other thread though. I don't see the big deal--it's certainly a lot closer to the target render than Motorstorm (which looks fantastic, don't get me wrong). |

2007-02-19 20:16:50 well they say they reached 90% of the the trailer quality, so it will still look amazing. |

2007-02-19 20:24:16 Well im sorry but that screen above isn't 90% of the trailer, I don't even thing the Human model is that good. --- |

2007-02-19 22:32:16 I think the character model looks really good. The only thing that really stands out to me (and they've done a decent job at trying to make sure it doesn't) is where the foliage is actually 2D--that's a bit of an eyesore once you notice it. The aliasing honestly doesn't even bother me that much. After seeing how good Gears looks with zero AA--I'm less likely to get worked up about that. |

And, this game doesn't even come close to the target render by looking at the GI picture Jollipop posted. Not only that but Tomb Raider Legend on the X360 can compete with that, and thats just a port. Sad, but true. --- |

2007-02-20 01:14:46 Posted by Jollipop Well im sorry but that screen above isn't 90% of the trailer, I don't even thing the Human model is that good. They may say 90% but, it's pretty much like the whole Forza 2 thing (PR damage control), as time goes on the difference will become more and more apparent. I actually think Alone in the Dark 5 is looking better than this at the moment, obviously early screens and things will change, but right now it's not looking very good to me. I would have much prefered to see a next gen Jak and Daxter than this. Hopefully they do obtain the 90% as the trailer is quite impressive. (but i will believe it when i see it) Oh, and the bolded statement is hilarious. The ex Naughty Dog said the same thing regarding the so called power of the Cell. lol ![]() Downgrade am confirmed. --- |

2007-02-20 07:39:09 In reply to NeoNemesis (2007-02-20 01:14:46) Posted by NeoNemesis Downgrade am confirmed. I was with you until you said the Tomb Raider Legend was comparable, now that's just funny. Not only is TR not very impressive, but it's got a terrible framerate on top of that. The character model in Uncharted alone has more detail than most of the characters in Tomb Raider Legend combined. Uncharted is probably going to look drop dead awesome, but don't let that stop you. |

2007-02-20 10:52:52 The player model looks more detailed to me (check the hand), but with aliasing. I really don't see as much of a "downgrade" as is being complained about. |

2007-02-20 14:19:08 If you look at the 3D turnaround, it's easy to take note of the fact that the lighting is being skewed by the muzzle flash. The polycount however, especially on the character level, is way beyond Tomb Raider Legend. TR is pretty light on the details in general--it had a nice lighting upgrade and some nice textures but that's about it--and it often ran sub 30fps @ 720p. |

Open your damn eyes, the game shown at last years E3 was a pre-render and them saying that the game looks 90% of the CG trailer is complete BS. And, yes it is comparable to Tomb Raider Legend, and its funny because TR Legend is prot: ![]() Posted by Jollipop I don't think he is trolling Grift. I would say TR Legends could give it a run for its money in that state.. *pics above* (The thing with TR:L though is that it was a port, as i said above I expect the Next TR to look just as good if not better than this) It's certainly not a huge leap from TR:L though. It doesn't look like they are using HDR in this game, or in the screens above, the lighting is horrible. --- |

2007-02-21 02:07:58 You're judging all this from a single, very close shot though. Very unfair, never mind that the pic is said to be rather old. |
