2007-07-12 14:31:37 Wait, A/B/X/Y buttons are analogue? I thought they are digital in 360 controller. It wouldn't matter how hard you press the buttons if they were digital... It's good that they have world already created and now they are focusing focus mainly on balansing, tuning, improving graphics etc. Fable 1 was not polished and had cut corners. --- |

2007-07-12 15:15:41 Wow. Peter, Fran & Co. actually have me interested in an RPG! An Action RPG with a deep fighting /combo system? Sweeeeeet! So we get RPG element, the ability to choose good or bad, and an action combat system to top it all off?! Wait, A/B/X/Y buttons are analogue? I thought they are digital in 360 controller. --- |

2007-07-12 15:39:32 In reply to deftangel (2007-07-12 15:28:26) Acert - I thought that Molyneux suggeste in Gamespot interview that pressure on button has impact in combat, but now that I heard it again it seems he didn't say that at all. 2007-07-12 16:00:39 The context sensitive stuff he showed a while ago seems to be integrated really nicely. I like the idea of moves making sense based on where you are. |

2007-07-13 20:22:20 How the hell does he think that this combat system is actually interesting ? I am not getting where the innovation is AT ALL. sure it's a one button combat but he speaks of it in such a way it makes you think he reinvented the wheel! --- |

Watch that, the contextual stuff will be amazing if he pulls it off and this time he has another year to do it in. |

2007-07-13 23:51:03 In reply to alimokrane (2007-07-13 23:47:03) Posted by alimokrane to sum it up, an RPG with a shallow story, lame (i.e. uninspired) art direction all covered up with a dark theme to cover things up. Anyway, let's move on. I just watched the combat demo and it's not quite perfect yet. And when Molyneux said the combat would be context sensitive, I also thought it would be environmental context as shown at X06. --- |

Honestly alimo, I don't see how you can rip on a game for using one button(actually 3) that can be pressed/held in varying rhythms to perform different context sensitive moves and say it's disinteresting when you obviously are all about a genre of game that features one-button, menu-based combat that has been around for decades. You are right, I don't like jrpgs. I don't like turn-based "combat," and when it's meshed with childish writing and incoherent story-telling(although these two things may stem from issues with translation), it only becomes that much more of a chore. |

2007-07-14 00:03:34 In reply to Ronsauce (2007-07-14 00:00:57) Posted by Ronsauce I brought jrpgs into it because it's hypocritical to get so worked up about a dev being excited about his combat system(..that actually sounds pretty good and hasn't been done in an rpg yet) when a genre you are obviously a fan of features some of the slowest, least engaging, least innovative combat of anything out there. I also hate the generalizations, but I'm actually in agreement for the most part. I've never been a big JRPG fan, although some of them certainly appeal to me more than others. I will play Trusty Bell, even though I was expecting quite a bit more out of it. But yeah.. when he actually sought out the least experienced gamer to show how simple the combat system is, it speaks well of accessibility, but that's about it. It certainly doesn't seem very deep. Yet. It is still early. |
