And what was it that could get an old, jaded GTA player like myself to be surprised? Believe it or not, it was when Niko pulled out a pistol in public and shot a guy in the face. No, his head didn't explode as if Gallagher had smashed into a watermelon. That single act was jarring. And that kind of reaction is exactly what Rockstar wants. What was one a casual public killing suddenly has some weight to it. Much of that is due to the fact that the replica of New York Rockstar has created is as real and as believable a city as any I have ever seen in a videogame.

There are potholes on the street, weed poking up between the cracks in the sidewalk, and pedestrians that don't look like cardboard cut-outs. The buildings have age to them. That's one thing many who recreate New York (even if it is given a different name) fail to get right. This is an old city outside of the skyscrapers of midtown Manhattan. The streets and buildings of New York have a history to them. And Rockstar has -- at least from what I've seen so far -- managed to infuse that sense of age into Liberty City.

The special attention paid to the physics also adds to that sense of reality. Niko has some weight to him. He shifts as he walks. He appears much more substantial than CJ or past GTA stars. And that cars, wow, the cars have suspension. You can see the weight distribution shift to one side on a turn. It's impressive little details like this that really brought Liberty City to life for me. For the first time, I can see a GTA game as something other than a giant arcade world.

I was just about to post this man the game sounds so damn incredible. The amount of fun I'll have with this game is going to be unbelievable. I was thinking of holding off on getting GTA4, but I changed my mind I can't wait.

Blue Dragon then Halo 3, then GTA4 a month after.

How is that even possible when it doesn't take that long to trek across San Andreas and they've said before that geographically Liberty City is smaller? I don't get it..

I also can't wait for this. One of my most anticipated games period.

GTA IV: "Complete experience" only on 360

It's no secret that the long-ago announced downloadable episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of the game.

According to Rockstar Games spokesman Hosi Simon, however, there won't be any consolation prizes for those who choose to buy the PlayStation 3 edition instead. When asked during a preview of the game whether there would be any advantage to owning the PS3 version that could rival the 360's exclusives, Simon said, "not that I can think of."

"They're identical games," Simon continued. "We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want.

"But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose," Simon said.

Downloadable episodes or no, the game looks set to be an incredible experience on both platforms.

Just one more reason why there's no way the PS3 sales will catch up with Xbox 360 sales anytime soon.. GTA was a very big systemseller last-gen, and when the GTA fans get hold of news like this (which even the most ignorant eventually will) it's obvious Xbox 360 is gonna sell more because of GTA-IV then PS3 will.. Also price is a big factor, by the time GTA-IV comes out MS will probably have lowered the price of the Xbox 360 (if they're smart).. Which means no matter what Sony does with the price of the PS3, it will still be way to expensive for most people compared to the Xbox 360 version..

Well for your information PS3 is currently outsales the Xbox 360, al be it because of temporary price cut. Sales stand at 4,5 million witch up from 3,3 beginning of June and 3,8 million almost halfway this month. I do agree though that Sony really needs some AAA exclusive titels soon, otherwise it won't keep up with Xbox 360. I mean there are some really good titles coming out on PS3, but nothing that can match Halo 3(already 5.000.000 copy's pre-ordered!!!) and most of those good games are also coming out on Xbox 360.

I haven't and probably wont pre order Halo3 and i love halo. GTA4 on the other hand seems to be taking the genre to the next level and is definately on my preorder list.

Well i don't know how many 360's are being sold at the moment but i reckon there weren't half million of them sold in the last couple of weeks. Because i know for a fact that the PS3 sales number stoud at almost 3,9 million at the beginning/halfway this month and now it's at 4,48 million: http://play.tm/story/12089

And for Halo 3 it was already known that there where already over 4 million copy's pre-ordered (just google ''halo 3 4 million pre-order''). But i remeber a statement not to long ago from Bungie itself that the number currently already exceeds 5 million, but i don't remember exactly where ir read it. That article is wrong on so many levels. The worldwide LTD of PS3 hasn't even broken 4m. I think they've got some numbers from the Sony financials confused.

As for Halo 3, I've heard the 4m pre-order figure but not 5m. Either way that's totally insane.
