I really like the animation of this game too bad TH didn't have good animation.

When does this game and Star ocean come out. I like more of an instant action rpg than a turn based.

Heh we aren't trying to change your opinion just offering up a counter to show that not everyone agrees. It's totally fine if you didn't like how the story played out since, as you said, it's your opinion.

I found the random battles to be a lot more forgiving than most other jrpgs I've played.

Why shouldn't they piggyback the success off people's expectations of the older game that's pretty much what any sequel does :P

Every new tales games that releases piggybacks the other and the same is true for many other franchises out there. A sequel to kotor piggybacked off the first kotor and a third kotor would be piggybacking off the previous 2. Fable 2 will be piggybacking off the first as well.

I know what you are trying to say here is that you feel if they present a new world view with a new set of characters that the name shouldn't be Lost Odyssey 2, but there is no way the concept only works for Final Fantasy. It was Sakaguchi himself that said that Lost Odyssey was the new Final Fantasy so to work in new titles in the franchise similar to Final Fantasy wouldn't be that big a surprise.

If they did it, it wouldn't matter anyway in the grand scheme of things because regardless of what it's called, it all comes down to one very important thing. People will look at it and think, do I even want to play this game? Does it look interesting? If they deem that answer to be yes they buy it. I highly doubt people will be too pre-occupied with semantics.

Star Ocean comes out around march or april next year.

What I don't understand is why this game is coming out in Europe before ToV, wich is due to 2009.
Hopefully import exists.
I wonder how Tri-Ace has the time to work on two propjects at the same time when they are not a really big studio. Lets hope those frame hicups are toned down, so thye battles turn out more fluid. I really hope they don't mess the gameplay too much.

Yea I would like for them to iron it out without screwing with how beautiful the gameplay looks. If they tone down the effects that would suck.

It's specifically when Capel swings his sword around. It shouldn't be something that they can't fix because it even exists early in the game when you are trying to escape from the prison and are breaking down the wooden barriers.

So that's something they have to notice and are looking to get fixed before release. I honestly wouldn't mind a delay for them to fine tune that. If they need the extra 3-5 weeks, then I say they take it. With that said, if come release framerate problems here and there are the biggest complaint reviewers will have then I'd say the game is in pretty good shape.

I wonder if installing IU to my hard drive would fix the problem?

1up with the absolutely worst written preview of all time :)

Dude from 1up spent so many lines insulting the game's graphics lol.

Compared it to Halo 3, Dead Rising. Not even sure what Gears of War is even being mentioned for.

He mentions Valkyrie profile 2 and radiata stories and then goes on to state that nothing about infinite undiscovery particularly stands out?

Is this a preview or fodder for fanboys hoping to see the game fail? There are so many cool aspects of the game that could've been mentioned in the preview and yet so much of it is spent pretty much trolling the game?

and the framerates are nothing short of atrocious, with combat sequences occasionally chugging at the sort of speed more in line with an overly ambitious PS1 game like Chrono Cross.

Talk about exaggeration. The game is pretty damn smooth and only ever shows signs of serious slowdown when the main character starts attacking with his sword and is connecting with a target. Looks more like code issues than anything else because it also happens in the escape from prison scene when he's hitting a single barrier. The way he describes the slowdown isn't at all honest. He even compared the game's graphics to Metal Gear Solid 4 LOL.

Wow even making the animations seem like they are downright terrible. Why does the preview appear written as if from a fanboy who hates that ff13 was announced for the 360 and so figures if IU flops then that will somehow make Square change their mind about putting it on the 360 and release star ocean on the ps3 day and date with the 360 version? Doesn't it seem written with that purpose in mind? Maybe I'm just being crazy.

I stopped reading 1UP, EGM or IGN. All those losers just bitch whenever a 360 JRPG is released and it isn't on their platform of choice. These days, I stick with actual Game Vids from here, Gametrailers or Nico Nico to see if I will like the game or not.

Yea, I already knew it was bad, but wow this has confirmed it.

There is no way a jrpg from Square Enix would ever get previewed like that were it a ps3 title. I don't expect them to kiss ass, but at least give some proper details on the game and not the heap of rubbish that the preview was filled with.

Nah I dont' think its anything of the sort, perhaps there are some real issues with IU, none of us have played it yet and they have so they have the benefit of the doubt until I get my hands on it.

There preview or review won't stop me getting it either way, I don't expect IU to be the awesome game everyone thinks its guna be anyway, I will remain pesimistic and perhaps it will surprise me though.

I know a lot more about the game than they do and they work for a big gaming site. The way you can always tell they don't know anything is when you just read the crap they write or listen to them on their podcast. They are completely clueless of so many crucial details that showcase IU to be a title that Tri-Ace is putting a lot of effort into. I don't know the quality of the final game, but the way they try to frame the information we have on the game so far, if you didn't know more about it than they did, you would think that it's an insanely crappy title with zero effort going into it. We don't know what the final verdict is on the overall quality of the game, but we do know that some serious work is going into the game.

No preview of a game like this should spend almost, if not more than half, of the article comparing it to games like metal gear solid 4, dead rising, halo 3 or Gears of War graphically. There was quite a bit of worthwhile information that was left out about the game in that interview.

There is some pretty heavy fanboyism from the 1up guys on a regular basis. Don't get me started on Shane's heavy tales of vesperia trolling primarily motivated by it being on the 360 and not the ps3. Graphics no better than a ps2 game, worst tales game ever. It was fitting that someone asked him if he would have a different opinion were the game running on the cell processor.

Huh, I didn't realize anyone would actually read that UI preview. But don't get your knickers in a twist about the FPS comparisons -- they weren't specious or frivolous. My point was that RPGs are having a harder time keeping up with the visual advances in other genres, which is why we see so few of them on the current wave of machines. Does anyone really disagree with that? Lots of PS1 and Saturn RPGs were among the best-looking games on their respective systems, but there were only a handful of PS2 RPGs that looked better than anything else on the machine. And with the current gen, I doubt anything except Nomura-produced money sinks are going to be visually competitive. The only nice-looking RPGs I've seen this gen have been Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon, which both went for a simplified cartoon style that glossed over their relative defects (and they were actually pretty sterile and empty, if you paid attention). Yeah, Gears of War and MGS4 are different genres, but to the average person's eye -- i.e. not people who spend hours a day arguing on GAF -- you have some really detailed and interesting-looking shooters on one hand, and some really shuddery, badly-animated RPGs like UI on the other. UI could be a perfectly excellent RPG, but which do you think most people are going to want to play at a glance? Most people are going to pick slickly-animated cubes of glistening meat over creepy, robotic children moving at 20fps.

What used to be the biggest selling point of RPGs, scale, has become more of a weakness these days. I feel like devs would probably be better off making Parasite Eve-length RPGs... but oops, PE3 is gonna be on last-gen tech. So I guess even Square's given up.

So that's what that was about. You may now resume talking about my cluelessness.

The problem with his preview is that he's acting like that preview was meant for anyone other than fans of the rpg genre. IU isn't in a competition with Gears of War 2 or some of the other games he has mentioned. They don't fight for the same type of gamer so his at first glance people will go for "slickly animated cubes of meat" over IU is just pure bull. At first glance, I would choose IU over something like Gears 2 every single time and that goes for many other games as well.

The fact that he bothered to point out that he didn't even think anyone would read the preview essentially means he could give 2 shits about the game. What the hell is his obsession with graphics? Only Nomura produced money sinks will compete? Has he not seen Star Ocean? Oh yea I forgot Nomura is in charge of a ps3 exclusive. So only those types of titles will be able to compete graphically :P

Even funnier is he's defending his comparisons of shooters like Halo 3 and Gears to IU and yet bitching about IU's animations? Last I checked, Halo 3's character animations look much more robotic than the ones in IU. Gotta love a bias.

For some odd reason, 1up is constantly spouting this nonsense that Infinite Undiscovery is using the Unreal 3 Engine, which it is not.

Lame, and their preview for this game is a completely non sense.
Really I can't wait till september and hope to see a demo rreleased before the game hits shelves.

I hope in the final version of the game they are able to really clean up the framerate. Probably won't be perfect, but as long as it's noticeably better.

I agree. For some reason it seems to me the problem comes in when Capel starts swinging his sword and the effects that come with that slow the game down.

Who woulda thought that Capel was capable of performing Itachi's technique.

It was Itachi who created a Kage Bunshin when he was fighting Kakashi and then he made the Kage Bunshin explode :o

There has to be something they can do because it doesn't matter how insane the effects get in the game, the performance is rock solid when the main character isn't attacking, but the moment the main character starts swinging his sword, things get all screwy. I don't think it has anything to do with any other effect it's just the coding for when he swings his sword is messed up.

This was even present in the escape prison part of the game when he's hitting those wooden blockades. Work that out Tri-Ace! :P

I have read that when Capel performs special moves the action is purposely slowed down, could have been in here for all I know lol.

But I don't notice that much slow down to be honest, I am less susceptible than most maybe, which is great for me :)

Yea there is definitely an intentional slowdown present in the game when he performs not just special moves, but normal swings as well, but maybe there is an issue where it's slowing down more than it should and causing what looks like framerate issues.

The slowdown that does happen isn't at all bad enough that it would hurt my experience, but it would be awesome if they could iron it out.

Doesn't make sense, I just think it due to the engine wich is not polished. They have a few weeks to solve them a bit, but I don't think they will be ficed since the game is finished and will be released in a mere 2 weeks, so I suspect it has already reached gold status right now.
On the other another great RPG for the 360, and hopefully I will buy it at hakf the price thanks to a special deal. Buy 3 games but you only pay 2 :P, choosen ones are IU, Too Human and Mercs 2, since the Force Unleashed is due out on by the end of the month. I am a bit sorry for the offtopic, I just wanted to share my luck with you with this deal :P

Not saying that most of the slowdown is due to things done on purpose.

I'm saying there is definitely SUPPOSE to be some intentional slowdown, but it's more suppose to be something that's stylistic and whatever they intended to do with that slight slowdown is causing a more serious issue framerate wise with the game and it's specifically when the main character is swinging his weapon.

When the main character isn't attacking, it doesn't matter how much action is going on on screen, the game is smooth. I think they got their engine down, but there is something else going on coding wise that affects the game's performance when the main character starts swinging.

A trailer of IU we've seen before, the latest one that only had lower resolution videos until this one. This trailer makes it seem like they might actually be able to fix the framerate issues because the drops use to happen even when there was a single enemy being attacked, but it looks better in this video.
