Deserved a thread, damn that game looks gorgeous.

Tri-Ace just as talented as they've always been. One of the most beautiful games I've ever seen.

Must've watched trailer 20 times now.

Gameplay.. I don't even know where to start. It just looks so sick.

I like the animations of the monsters as they were walking around on the field in the snow. Very nicely done.

If someone would show me SO4 trailer and told me it's IU, I would believe him easily.

After the first screenshot of IU this is exactly what i thought IU was going to look like. I think this is a much better looking game. Graphically anyways. Love Star Ocean. Can't wait for this one.

Yup this looks much better graphically than IU, looks like they learnt quite a bit whilst making that game, I believe its using the same engine.

Some of the area's look very empty but I guess its still quite early I suppose.

Lighting is good and looks like they aren't using bloom which is good :D

Fable 2 has some of the best graphics on the 360.... lol.

Keep in mind, Star Ocean is doing much less than IU so it should look better.

100% seamless world in IU, you fight in the middle of a tsunami, you get chased by dragons, rocks come tumbling down at you and your entire party. You can be detected by enemies in a multitude of ways, sight, sound, smell. You can even knock apples down from a tree to distract enemies.

A number of other things really. IU doesn't look as good as Star Ocean, but it's still a pretty visually impressive game.

With that said, Star Ocean is easily one of the best looking 360 titles we've seen.

Well thats obviously an art choice, I don't think fable 2 looks as great as I expected especially character models wise.

I still think the game looks great though, It's about the only WRPG I'm even interested in.

It really is. The only time Fable 2 looks washed out is in screenshots. In Video form it's vibrant extremely colorful and is all around just a fantastic looking game. Fable 2's character models aren't that impressive, but hey that's the Fable 2 artstyle.

The new IU trailer doesn't look any worse IMO, now that they ironed out framerate issues it's much more pleasant to eye.

For those who played the previous Star Ocean titles (remakes of I & II are coming later this year to PSP), there will be allusions to the past stories. Though this is an origin tale, it does take place in the same game universe, so there will be connections to future events.

Developer tri-Ace promises a more "authentic" sci-fi experience, even though the trailer shows plenty of (welcome) flights of fancy. The "realism" is a product of the story taking place closely to modern times. And for those who played Star Ocean III, tri-Ace recognizes the distaste some had for the big twist. While we can't say there won't be an equally big twist in The Last Hope, we were assured that the closer ties to reality will prevent any sort of virtual reality cop-out as in the past. Star Ocean IV's story will be "easier to understand" than its predecessor, according to tri-Ace.

In Star Ocean IV you'll visit multiple planets, rather than being stuck on a single world. No details on how greatly those planets will vary or the purpose for visiting each. We'd assume that one of the overarching quests is finding a hospitable planet for human relocation.

As for gameplay, Star Ocean IV will be very similar to Star Ocean III. For those who didn't play the previous Star Ocean, that means real-time combat that takes place in arenas separate from the travel field of the game world. The combat will be "flashier and speedier" with new too-be-announced features. But at its core, it will be Star Ocean III. That's a very good thing. And yes, you can expect some form of item creation as well.

Further details on Star Ocean IV will have to wait. Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 spring 2009, Square-Enix is keeping a tight wrap on the game for the time being. But if it's going to play like Star Ocean III and lack the what-the-eff plot twist, then it's going to be an RPG worth the wait.

Awesome the item creation was so addictive, great to hear the battle engine will be like SO3 also.

This game is guna be amazing :D

I really liked the Virtual Reality twist in the storyline of SO3 though, its better than the same old cliche shite other JRPGs force on us ... there I said it.

Thats because it wasn't cliche ;)

Sure it had many WTF head scratching moments, but I kind of liked that.

I hate cliches just as much as the next guy, but I was loving the story and world as it was being presented to me prior only to find out that it was virtual reality. I didn't like that. The game was still fantastic, but I didn't like the "hey it's all virtual reality" twist.

At first I was like whoa cool, but then I started thinking and thought.. wait this seems like a twist just for the sake of a twist and they really went out there. All in all I still enjoyed the game and will no doubt enjoy this one as well. One of the best battle systems in jrpgs.

Roundtable discussion with Tri-Ace on IU and Star Ocean

Snippet
YY: We've pushed the sci-fi element for SO4 because we assume Western gamers would enjoy a bigger sci-fi emphasis. Storywise, it's set in the near future, somewhat similar to the present. Systemwise, the gameplay is similar to past Star Ocean titles but speedier and more beautiful graphically. We believe we are utilizing Xbox 360 hardware to its fullest.
I know a lot of people say this, but I actually believe these guys truly are and what's even scarier is that they'll probably get even more impressive results later on. I honestly think that after what Tri-Ace pulled on the 360 between IU and Star Ocean 4, that they are going to show the console more love. I'd imagine after designing such an amazing engine that runs and looks so fantastic on the console they'd further take advantage of the code to build newer titles without as much cost involved.

Nice, I really can't wait to see the first 10 minutes of this game :D

I don't believe they are using the 360 to its fullest TBH, every developer seems to think that, the trailer showed some promising stuff though.
