2006-01-10 16:15:13 unofficial response to COD2 from Activision

Someone posted this on our website forums and I'm not sure how legit it is, but it sounds like it is very possible and a bit of a copout if you ask me. Bring on GRAW.

The XBox 360 is a new console and changes were made to the implementation of the XBox live interface for the 360. As always happens less is known or set regarding a console prior to it's release. What was implemented in Call of Duty 2 is the basic interface to XBox Live. If you would like to play with your friends on Call of Duty 2 you should make sure you are taking advantage of the tools provided to you through the xbox live interface. Make sure you friends are set to approval status AND are on your friends list. XBox Live will attempt to connect you to people who are both your friends and people you have given an approval rating before it tries to match you with random people. You can also try not selecting quick match and specifying game parameters, these parameters will attempt to be matched first and if all of you select the same parameters you are more likely to be put together.

As it stands now there is nothing for Activision to acknowledge. The interface is functional. The tools that you have been provided with work. It's not necessarily what you want and I will certainly make note of that for future reference by us, but at this point the interface is at is is and this is highly unlikely to change now that the game is released. Sorry.

As far as other companies making it possible to play private games I will draw your attention again to the fact that these are launch titles for a new console and the other studios that you mentioned are either owned outright by Microsoft or their game was published by Microsoft.

What a bullshit cop-out attitude.

Oh so only Microsoft knows how to make a proper Xbox Live game? Guess I'd better think twice before I buy another Activision title.

Uhh...im a little confused by this post. Maybe its because I haven't played COD2 (360) online?

Can someone explain what this post is all about?

Imagine Halo 2's rumble pit without the party system. You can enter a search for a game, but unless you can invite your friends as fast as hell before the room fills, you can't play with them. And you can't make your own rooms either.

LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME

"Oh the new Xbox Live features, first Xbox 360 game, boo hoo..." If they had even played their own game they might have understood why it sucks on Live the way they made it.

I expect a functional Live game that lets me properly use my friends list. You?

The same...but we can't always have what we want.

Being able to play with your friends is probably in the minimum spec for Live games. And here's Activision trying to convince us that we can, though they recognize it's a pain in the ass and doesn't always work. It is BS, and having paid $60 for the game I feel it's within my right to bitch. :P

I don't really mind the multiplayer limitations of this game. It's one of the best single-player experiences ever.

If they sort out the save bug, but that's for another thread.

What save bug? I found that my levels would just wipe for no reason, but don't know if thats what you mean. I just used the level cheat instead. Not much replayablity so am selling it. Great experience though.

I think COD2 is a bit arcadey. IMO the best WW2 game is brothers in arms. Can't wait to see the next gen version...

All that statement says is that they are going to address the lag, but I guess it's a start.

Yeah, i was very dissapointed in the lack of "parties." This isnt new technology people. You (COD2) have a 77% attachment rate to the 360, higher then any 3rd party game has ever had, and you cant use old technology for a next gen system? Is it that hard?

"You can also try not selecting quick match and specifying game parameters"

Are you kidding me? Parameters plural? The only difference between quick match and custom is the type of game, thats it. No map, no ping, no nothing!! That statement alone shows me that this statement is either fake or they dont know what the hell they are doing over there.

If u guys look at the system link section of multiplayer, u can see they kinda already have the layout for a proper online experience:
1. Create a game, where u can select a lvl, gamemode and so on....
2. A list of all the gamelobby's so u can join your friends server...

I don't think it would be hard implementing that on xbox live, cause 2 be honest i'm getting pretty aggitated by the way the Live proportion is run now.....
