Seems like ATi is ramping up the 4870X2 a lot quicker then people had predicted. People were saying August, some even September, but it is being reported that this card will be available by the end of the month.

I really want to see how their CF side ports pan out. I am also hoping someone resolves the memory duplication issue, i.e. 2 chips but not 2x memory pools.

Hmm that sounds alot like my machine
8400, 2 gig ram, 4870, win xp pro, 32 bit
SOOOO GUYSSS THIS IS IT!!! THE 4870, when i heard of this card i KNEW i wanted it.

I think theres only 1 thing you guys will want to know, in Crysis, i get
36-46 FPS (theres some hicups, rare hicups (like really rare) when it drops to 30)
this on 1650x1050 with ALL settings high, i will try the "trick" to go DX10 later on, but i find graphics are plenty nice ATM.

Its 30-40 with 4xAA, but i dont use AA, i know it will sound dumb, but im happy with graphics without AA. and quite honestly, in some cases i cant tell the bloody difference.

Anand's tests should be a good indication of the average framerate he'd get. The only difference was that Anand used "very high" shaders, and everything else on high.

When i play WITHOUT AA, i get 36-46 FPS, thats all high 1680x1050 resolution.
AA takes some performance away.

So been playing crysis for about 2 hours, id say videocard is quiet, im using the antec 900, all fans on low.


EDIT: GPU is at 76 degrees celcius, fans on low, stock fan on gpu, i think i need to boost my fan power.

Mine was like 81c idle before, but now I got it down to 45/46c after upping the fan speeds. This poor man solution will work for now.

Managed to get it in my case, runs bloody hot like the other guys said, idle its 83c. (thats overclocked at 780 GPU / 1090 memory)

I'm kind of baffled how to get full range RGB on this thing, first thing i noticed is the lack of true blacks with this card, every other card i've had has had some kind of attentuation with black and white levels, (and no the colour settings brightness/contrast don't do the job).

Which means my blacks are guna look like crap, unless I switch my HDMI settings (yet this still won't give me full RGB), but seeing as its shares the same port as my PS3 I don't want to have to keep switching between full and standard RGB.

That aside it runs 3D mark vantage a crap load better, before I was getting under 5 fps (8500GT) and now its between 21-30 fps, just the standard demo version, I don't own crysis to try it although I may download the demo and see what its like in 1080p :D

Besides the black level thing, which i will get to the bottom of >.>, I',m pretty pleased, runs quiet aswell.

The question here is, what is an acceptable temp for the card to be running at, obviously cooler is better, and where do you get the hack to increased idle fan speeds.

Just make a profile in catalyst, then go to Windows/User/err Jollipop?/AppData/local/ATI/ACE

after that you should see some XML documents, one of them being your profile that you just recently created. Right click on it and select edit.

scroll down till you see this

Well ya see I tried this, and low and behold no AppData file in my user folder. :O

I'm on Vista 64 if that makes any difference, I wouldn't have thought it would, I tried searching whole HDD for ATI folder but can't find that either. :S

Edit: Nevermind I had hidden folders turned off :P

Yeah, the heat issues are a hassle, wouldnt the fan speed up anyway while playing a game?

Ahh thanks for info.
Also thanks to Kenshin for that lil fan trick, just tried it now, now i might be on the deaf side, im not sure if it really sped up my GPU fan, how can i check how fast the fan is turning?
