http://www.pcworld.com/article/150970/upgrade_your...

Someone recommended this link to me as an affordable way to upgrade the 360 HDD. has anyone attempted this? Thoughts and Concerns? Obviously this would void the 360 HDD warranty, could it cause other issues and/or be detectable?

MS will/can lock anyone out from XBL if they can detect changes within the hardware of a 360 (can be as simple as a fan drawing too much voltage), I'm guessing a HDD upgrade like this would be easy to detect.

They (mostly) can't even detect DVD drive firmware hacks and you think they can detect a hdd update to a format that they already support? Oh... and fan voltage? LOL?

I doubt they even attempt to detect such modifications. They should be more concerned witch catching pirates on Xbox Live, and they're not doing a very good job of that already.

Note: People *have* been banned for piracy, but there's still hundreds if not thousands of gamers on Xbox live using less-than-legit 360's and games. And for the record: I'm not 100% sure they couldn't detect this hack, but I'm confident enough that I would try it myself if I wanted a bigger HDD.

Well there are stories over at Xboxscene that suggest otherwise, sure it could all be bullshit but I'm just spreading what I read.

Sure they can't detect Hacked DVD firmwares but as you say they can detect the copies themselves, if they can detetct this you can bet your ass they can detetct other stuff.

Note:- There are stories over there also regarding to cheap chinese made HDD that will get your system banned.

If there is a slight chance that a 3rd party HDD could comprimse the system and lead to custom firmwares like the Xbox, MS would have a much bigger piracy problem on their hands.

Ah, well that would be the best place on the web to gather info on the subject.

And it's not very hard to hack the DVD firmware. I'd imagine no harder than hacking the hdd really. They already have a piracy problem.

And fyi for the longest time (i'm not 100% sure if this is still true) they had no way of detecting copies running on hacked systems either.

There are lots of hackers out there on live, just not necessarily the cheating type.

I learned the hard way not to "try" it anymore.. My 1st 360 got banned after some friend pursuaded me to flash it.. And sure it worked on XBL for the 1st few weeks/months, but after some update, 'bang' I was done.. So if online gaming is important to you, I wouldn't mess with it.. If you can do without XBL, sure go ahead, take the risk and enjoy it working online while it lasts..

My cousin did it to a couple of his 360's and they both got banned. Sooner or later, they get you.
