Why not automatically select the download server, or maybe 'randomly' is a better word for it -- With the option of specifying still there for people with special requirements.

It would save time, and it's not always entirely clear which one you 'should' choose, if any.

Just an idea, loving the site, still. :]

Well, some mirrors work *much* better from certain countries or even ISPs. So making just a big pool of servers will be counterproductive for many people.

I wonder if it's ethical to work out the user's location via IP and auto-select a server that should perform well?

Still doesn't answer the ISP problem though, hmm.

There's nothing unethical about that, many sites (including google) filter results/content depending on IP. It would be unethical if you do something bad with it.

I think if anything the server should be highlighted and let the user choose. Like text that says "this server might work the best for you". I haven't had download issues lately though, back then it was more common to have really slow downloads, but not anymore.

I just use the DE servers. They work the best, even in the worst conditions.

Though I've noticed you may not be able to download more than one file from the same server at the same time.
If you attempt it you will probably get a corrupt file around 485 kb.

interesting approach to the mass download issue, but it would be useful to note that on the download pages.
Unless it's a bug, but even then you may want to let it be ;)
