Acert you were talking about Forge making cheating/glitching easier. This is true but I presume Forge will only be available in custom games therefore it shouldnt really present a problem in that respect.

Agreed.. and no one is going to take Forge mini-games very seriously.

In fact, did they not say Forge was a seperate mode altogether ? I mean away from matchmaking and custom games ?

7-eleven H3 pre-orders?

We've noticed that midnight food-runs to the corner 7-Eleven stores are common among gamers. That's why 7-Eleven is now taking pre-orders for Bungie's Halo 3.

This looks to be a company wide promotion, and is a testament to the popularity of the Halo franchise as well as the amount of hype that has been building up for the game. If you plan on heading down to place your own pre-order, be advised that it still isn't clear if you need to pay a reservation fee or not, so bring a couple of bucks with you just in case.

I can't believe you guys are ruining the awesomeness that will be FORGE by arguing over semantics and bad English.

It's a Map Editor.

Allows you to EDIT a multi-player MAP.... MAP EDITOR.

In fact, is goes beyond a map editor in ways because it offers real time editing during gameplay.

The description given is perfectly fine.

Nobody ever said that "editing" entailed changing textures or geometry.

Would you all feel better if it was called a Map Modder? Since it modifies a Map? I can't believe you guys are actually arguing over this.

Who cares what it's called, it sounds awesome!

Except you're not really editing or modding the map--just the placement of spawns--you're not really modifying the level at all. I'm not arguing against Forge's appeal at all, I think it's a neat addition to the game.. but it simply does not fit into the classic definition of what a level editor is.

Editing spawns isn't editing the map, it's not modifying the map. That is all.

I think some people here are missing the point of Forge.

It allows you to edit spawns, objective placements, weapon, vehicle spawns etc etc. Such things are quite important to how a map plays. A subtle change can completely imbalance it or make an improvement.

The player traits system allows for a lot of messing around with damage, vehicles etc. There are a TON of options even for custom games.

It supports multiple players who can drop in and drop out of being monitors at any time.

It is totally seperate from matchmaking, so cheating won't be an issue.

I've seen it more as an addition for the Halo community. People were already using Halo 2 on Live to things other than play the game as it was meant to, in the traditional sense. It'll be a big boon for the Machinima community for starters but really I think the true value will become apparent once it's out there in people's hands and some interesting things come out of it. I see it more as a tool for seeing what emergent gameplay can be had out of the assets on the Halo 3 disc. I think the more than a map editor type comments come out of trying to explain this concept rather than bigging up the mode as an uber map editor as some people might picture it.

Yes! That's it! They should remove all the features!

There's not a rolleyes.gif big enough.

Seriously.. can't we have to love everything? I've praised this game and its accomplishments on numerous occasions, but I think one thing is a little lacking (and defend COD4) and I get bitched at endlessly for it.

Didn't you hear, I'm a PC loving Halo hater!

dude, you're complaining about a feature! a feature that they didn't have include in the game.

so what if it isn't a full blown map editor, you're still editing the map. just because you're not manipulating geometry doesn't mean that its not considered a map editor.

You're editing spawns! And I'm not complaining about the feature itself, but the lack of another.. simply because I thought it was actually being included.. because so many people suggested the game would have a map editor.. which.. it doesn't :P

But I've said what I have to say. If it's a level editor though (which it isn't)--so is Garry's Mod!

I hope there is some way to rigidly enforce a few criteria onto forge-altered games.

Because if you're playing, for example, the RTS style one, from what we've heard there isn't any way to stop both teams from spawning 10 tanks, 10 rocket launches, and 10 spartan lasers right at the start. It just devolves the game into a brawl. Which, while fun initially, kinda makes the match pointless.

So, I'd like to see some "forge restriction settings" where you can:
limit the amount of forgers at once/per team, (ie, 1 forger per team)
criteria of forger changing (after current forger death, any-time, cycling)
assign quotas to start, (100 points say)
conditions of increasing the quota, (after time lapse, with kills, objective captures etc)
set positions of forging (ie, only at home base, near to a teammate, anywhere)
global/team upper limit of forging,
limits to types of forgable items (ie, only weapons, only vehicles, static boxes/itmes, equipment etc)

Its already a really nice feature, and one that most games don't have an equivalent to, but if they can just incorporate some alterable restrictions like those above (if they haven't already) it'd go a long way to ensuring adoption in "serious" matches.

And while i'd like a full map creator, unless its very generic or limited in some way, map sizes will be very large. Not fun when most people have terrible upload speed.

“Halo 3” Becomes Fastest-Selling Pre-Ordered Video Game in History, Soaring Past 1 Million Milestone

Blockbuster consumer brands including 7-Eleven, Burger King Corp., Comcast, Mountain Dew and Pontiac unveil unprecedented support for the launch of this year’s biggest entertainment event.

REDMOND, Wash. — Aug. 9, 2007 — As the countdown continues for the entertainment event of the year — the launch of “Halo® 3” — the video game continues to set records and establish new precedents for an entertainment launch. Today, Microsoft Corp. announced that preorders in North America for the exclusive Xbox 360™ title have exceeded the 1 million milestone. In addition, Microsoft unveiled the first exciting details of upcoming promotions from leading consumer brands, including Mountain Dew, 7-Eleven, Pontiac, Comcast and Burger King Corp.

In a strategy utilized in other big entertainment launches, retailers around the world have begun taking preorders, enabling consumers to order one of the three versions of “Halo 3”: Standard Edition, Limited Edition and the ultra-collectible Legendary Edition. In fact, demand has been so strong for the Legendary Edition of the game that it is expected to be sold out by the time the game launches on Sept. 25. Retailers have also noted that the presales for “Halo 3” are the fastest in video game history.

“What we’ve experienced is nothing short of phenomenal,” said Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of merchandising at GameStop Corp. “‘Halo 3’ has eclipsed many previous records and will prove to be one of the must-have items of 2007.”

“The excitement for ‘Halo 3’ is incredible,” said Jill Hamburger, vice president of movies and games at Best Buy. “From our preorders online and the buzz we’re hearing in our stores, we know this release is going to be one of the biggest entertainment events of the year. We’re thrilled to be able to bring it to our customers.”

For the first time in video game history and on par with the scope of major movie releases, some of the world’s biggest consumer brands have aligned to support the launch. Many plan to offer a variety of promotions that give consumers the opportunity to obtain unique “Halo 3”-branded products and prizes and participate in one-of-a-kind “Halo 3”-themed events.

“This September, ‘Halo 3’ will push video game entertainment into the forefront of mainstream culture,” said Chris Di Cesare, director of creative marketing at Microsoft. “Teaming up with some of the world’s strongest and most recognizable brands is trailblazing new paths and cementing video games as big entertainment on par with major event films, and is a testament to the excitement and anticipation intrinsically linked to ‘Halo 3.’”

Mountain Dew will unveil the first beverage co-branded with a video game, Mountain Dew Game Fuel. Game Fuel has the same great taste of Mountain Dew with an invigorating blast of citrus cherry flavor and added caffeine for maximum intensity. Game Fuel will come in 20-ounce bottles, 2-liter bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans and will be available nationwide for a limited time starting Aug. 13, 2007.

7-Eleven today confirmed its plans to support the launch of “Halo 3” through a variety of in-store promotions, including three “Halo 3”-branded collectible Slurpee cups. In addition,7-Eleven will run a “Halo 3” promotion with Mountain Dew Game Fuel and Doritos, with thousands of “Halo 3”-themed prizes, including, as grand prize, a chance to win a role as a voice actor in the upcoming Xbox 360 video game, “Halo Wars™,” by Ensemble Studios. In a few select markets, Mountain Dew will offer a special-edition aluminum bottle of Mountain Dew Game Fuel with an exclusive design created by Bungie Studios, the developers of “Halo 3.” This bottle will be available in very limited quantities, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item.

Pontiac will provide consumers with several exclusive “Halo 3”-related opportunities. It will host Pontiac Gamers Garage events in select locations, providing consumers with a chance to play the game for the first time before its release. In addition, in support of the launch of its upcoming high-performance G6 GXP Street, Pontiac will provide 1,000 consumers with a copy of the game, and one lucky gamer will win a limited-edition “Halo 3” G6 GXP Street car.

Burger King Corp. will continue its sponsorship of Xbox 360 with national, in-restaurant support from Sept. 24 through Oct. 22. “Halo 3”-themed packaging will offer customers access to exclusive content by logging on to http://www.bk.com/halo3 beginning Sept. 23. Graphics will be featured on select packaging, including the 42-ounce cup and King FRYPOD™.

Comcast has also joined the “Halo 3” campaign and will host exclusive video content, including user-generated movies and machinima, on its Web sites http://gameinvasion.net and <6def>http://www.ziddio.com. Comcast will also feature standard- and high-definition “Halo 3” videos on its signature ON DEMAND service.

“Halo 3” is also the official sponsor of the Projekt Revolution tour this summer, which includes bands Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance. Exclusive “Halo 3” VIP events will take place in select cities on the tour, where attendees will receive “Halo 3”-themed merchandise and have an opportunity to meet the members of Linkin Park.
