So who's seen Avatar? Apparently some "Halo fanboys" have and thinks James Cameron ripped them off. He says Bungie simply referenced the same source material as he did, i.e. his own film in Aliens.

He's right of course. The Aliens influence in Halo is well documented but I think the similarities between the two go beyond the obvious Aliens stuff. Pandora looks a lot like the sort of environment you would find on a Forerunner ring to me.

Anyhow, unsurprisingly this occurred to me when I went to see the film, which also prompted me to think that perhaps a Halo movie doesn't have to look like District 9 after all - even at a time when Reach is moving away slightly from the bright colourful aesthetic of the original Halo games.

Equally unsurprisingly I wrote all of this down in a blog which you can appropriately savage here;-

What a load of crap. Bungie was obviously INSPIRED by Aliens, just like almost every other believable Military Sci-fi anything. That being said, what makes Cameron's designs so good is that he injects reality. With that in mind, any believable military design is going to have a similar look. The only way to avoid it is to make some crazy alien shit that no one can relate to. Cameron's genius comes from his willingness and ability to make something unreal believable...

Avatar's entire story has been completely ripped off Winnetou (Western book/film made in Germany), it's like a modern Western film. It would be interesting to learn if Cameron read the book before he wrote the story for Avatar. Anyway, people care way too much about these things. It's happening everywhere and the world would be an empty and sad place if we had to build everything from scratch.

A notice on Halo Waypoint has announced that a four part motion comic series will be debuting on the service starting this Saturday, January 16. The motion comic, entitled "Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian," is based on the short story of the same name written by 343 Industries' own Frank O'Connor for the recently released Halo Evolutions story collection. A new episode will air every Saturday from January 16 through February 6. Check out the preview, handily embedded above.

Ugh, that's why I can't stand 90% of Anime. Shit dialogue and that over the top, unrealistic style. I like how the Spartan does a back-flip to avoid the incoming fire, then lands and stands still out in the open. Lame...

Lighting in the CVG screenshots look subpar... definitely Halo3 level... not a Killzone2/Uncharted2/CODMW2 level.

At least from what I've seen so far.

I own a 360 and PS3 and I'm a 360 fanboy so to speak. I think Bungie, needs to bring their A game to compete graphically with the top tier PS3 games and Reach thus far has not. I haven't even enjoyed Halo since Halo1.

Hopefully it pans out.
