06/02/2010 Ã 23:10:35 LCD Burn in? / Further funk! I think I had Mass Effect's pause menu up for a bit too long because now I'm SEEING THINGS. MENU ITEM.. THINGS. --- |

06/02/2010 Ã 23:29:50 LCD's don't burn in, that effect you're having is called 'persistence of image' on LCD's. Turning of your screen (unplug socket outlet) for 24 hours or so should fix the problem... --- |

07/02/2010 Ã 01:32:46 You get image persistence on pretty much any screen. You're only at risk for perma damage if you're using a CRT or Plasma for the most part. |

13/02/2010 Ã 16:02:23 There are some simple executables out there that create a fullscreen static effect to resolve this. |

12/12/2010 Ã 07:50:59 Now my screen has developed a new funky defect. At the top of the screen, off slightly to the left, is a dark, shadowy blob. I can't say when it got there or if it did so gradually, I just noticed it a lot when I was playing Brotherhood the other day. --- |

12/12/2010 Ã 17:55:11 Shadowy spot appears slowly as the display heats up, too. It was gone when I started the telly earlier, but now it's appeared again. --- |

12/12/2010 Ã 22:19:13 After a truckload of Sherlock Holmesing I've found out that it may be a thing refered to as the "mura effect". --- |

12/12/2010 Ã 23:47:44 The more commonly used term apparently is "clouding", that might help a bit in the search for a solution. --- |

13/12/2010 Ã 03:15:19 Thanks for the links! I dunno if clouding is the same thing, though, because that seems to be about light leaking through the display creating bright spots. --- |

13/12/2010 à 19:52:43 En réponse à SimonM7 (13/12/2010 à 03:15:19) I thought they were the same thing, but just 'variants' with the same root cause (could be wrong though). Either way, good luck! ;) --- |

13/12/2010 Ã 19:58:48 Well I'm just semi guessing, because I dunno how leaking light could result in a dark spot, so. :) --- |

13/12/2010 à 20:15:43 En réponse à SimonM7 (13/12/2010 à 19:58:48) I believe most modern plasma tv's use several techniques/improved manufacturing processes/material to combat burn-ins, but other than that I can't say for sure it's a non-issue. You'd be best to check out the avforums or the likes for some proper feedback...lot's of die-hards over there. :P --- |

18/12/2010 Ã 19:31:33 I kept it off for 2 day (agonising gameslessness!) and it actually seems to have faded. Been playing for a bit now and it doesn't seem to be coming back. There's a VERY feint tendency still, but keeping it off for long stretches does seem to be the cure! --- |

19/12/2010 à 00:13:20 En réponse à PlumbDrumb (18/12/2010 à 23:45:52) Yeah, but that's not really an option given I just spent all my savings on a new computer and a new phone. Worst timing ever on this. :( --- |

26/12/2010 Ã 13:31:38 My old LCD would get image retention after being on for 5 minutes. It became useless for playing games. --- |

26/12/2010 Ã 14:16:31 CRT's definitely do not last forever. Hell, they die forever! Who hasn't had an aging CRT that's been on its last leg for several years? |

26/12/2010 Ã 14:30:54 I have a 40" sony LCD now and its fine except that it has a horrible response rate so I get nasty smearing. My LG monitor is smaller (22") and lower resolution but I often use it for 360 gaming cause it has a much faster response rate. --- |
