2009-01-08 12:44:33 Mass Effect 2 Thread - New Adept and Tali Video If true Wahooooo my precious returns!!! :) Mass Effect BioWare will present the iterative level design process of Mass Effect 2 at this year's Game Developer's Conference. Mass Effect was an exciting action RPG that broke western audiences into a new kind of game. Now BioWare are moving forward with Mass Effect 2, and implementing a new process of level-creation that will be showcased and explained at GDC '09. By learning from the mistakes and issues they encountered in the development of Mass Effect, BioWare has made progress in level-creation by maximising quality whilst minimising cost or having to rework sections. This enables them to address problems early in the development cycle and their eager to share their lessons with other developers. So, other than a discussion of their new methodology, what else can you expect BioWare to show of Mass Effect 2? Reportedly they will illustrate their progress through a graphical example of one of the game's levels. So keep an eye out for this year's GDC. GDC 2009 will be held in San Francisco from the 23rd March. --- |

2009-01-08 13:20:21 Well, Well even though I didnt like Mass Effect (after the few hours I played), It's still one of the most successful games of 2007 and I am happy to see it making a comeback. 2009 is getting more crowded every day! --- |

2009-01-08 13:23:54 I just have one request for ME2 and that would be to have more varied side quests. The main quest was really great and i enjoyed every second of it...what i didn't enjoy as much were the boring side quests all set in one of 3 cut-and-paste environments with different loot inside. I realize that the game is limited because of the dvd format but still...it would be great :) --- |

2009-01-08 13:30:35 Well I just hope they are focused on one version, no point in improving the workflow if they are going multiplatform. |

2009-01-08 13:33:54 More deep customization and sidequest would be great, and the whole survey planet...remove it and add something else. --- |

2009-01-08 14:53:02 For me the only thing i want more off, is more main quest Citadel type planets to explore, the same number as in KOTOR would be very nice, i dont think the format had anything to do with why the sidequest looked the same, i think that was more lazinest or lack of time on the dev's part, hell Fallout3/Oblivion and even Fable2 have proved you can have hrs and hrs of fun and varied sidequest fitted on the dvd format --- |

2009-01-08 15:00:14 Rather than more Citadel type planets they should make quests that take us into the huge city areas we could only look at through big windows. Make it feel a bit like Bladerunner chasing down informants, conspirators and bad guys in the various districts inhabited by the Citadel species. |

2009-01-08 15:06:07 dcd: both oblivion and fallout 3 recycles stuff up the wazoo. You'll see the same bits and pieces of ruined building, derelict subway and shanty town again and again and again. Same with oblivion only it's all medieval. And fable 2 had a relatively small and restricted world, not to mention lacking in content. No the recycling in ME was not pure lazy, clearly part of it was, but not all of it. --- |

2009-01-08 15:08:51 In reply to Slabs (2009-01-08 15:00:14) Well the Citadel was a huge city area, so yeah more of that with the same excellent type story and i'm a happy bunny. (who the hell am i kidding, i just want the damn game!!) --- |

2009-01-08 15:33:42 I hope it doesn't contain as much boring shooting with stupid AI as the first game. The first big city was awesome and the last area with cut scenes all in between was pretty disappointing. Good game but could have been much better. I hope the second game is at least great. --- |

2009-01-08 15:48:07 The main quest was excellent and i loved every moment of it, so if they give it the Epic formula of bigger better and more bad ass, i will be in heaven. The sidequest on the other hand lost its charm for me after the forth time of doing the same drive and shoot sequence on the same looking planet and complex setup. --- |

2009-01-08 16:17:37 They should fix the cover system in the game, just polish it up. --- |

2009-01-08 16:23:40 Mass Effect customization is one of the best around on any console RPG if not the best!, i'm sure we will have more diverse hairstyles and facial tweaks this time round though, along with different weapons, i just hope it gets released in 09, that would make my year. --- |

2009-01-08 16:28:16 DCD: meh, Isn't dragon age slated for a 09 release? Not that i'd mind having ME2 this year but one bioware RPG per year is enough to satisfy me at least :) --- |

2009-01-08 16:29:47 I thought it had decent enough of customization models, but most of them was just bad, to decent, some few was good. --- |

2009-01-08 16:40:40 If Microsoft have paid for exclusivity again then it most certainly could be an 09 title, look at Gears 2 last year. |
