Great song, really epic haunting bass riff at the start.

"... A loaded gun can't set you free... So you say."

He took his life only a short while after that.

Yeah I'm addicted to those guys! Some of the best covers I've ever heard!

I'm actually thinking about learning to play the guitar, but I have no idea where to start (aside from getting a guitar at my local music shop

You guys got some tips for a beginner?
- What should I watch out for when buying my first guitar?
- Any good online sources?
- Tips and tricks?
I'm not amazing or anything, but I've been at it since '05. I'd say pay a lot of attention to the "action" on the frets, as when you are starting out it sucks if you have to press real hard to get a decent sound (although it does help with hand strength). I started with a cheap ($100) Epiphone, and it sounded fine. As I got better I shelled out 400 for an Ovation electric acoustic (has a built-in tuner which is handy, and you can plug it in if you want to use an amp). I like the shallow body on it, but not everyone does.

My favorite place to find online music is ultimate-guitar.com. They have just about every song out there with cord and tab versions. Great site. Good luck! :)

I'd say at least buy a course on dvds or something if you intend to start playing, if you don't want to fork out for a real teacher. It's good to have some sort of guidance to avoid the pitfalls when starting out. If nothing else it's easier to learn stuff the right way from the beginning rather than having to re-learn and get rid of bad habits later.

Ultimate-guitar is a good resource for tabs though, no doubt.

As for a first guitar, just get a cheap one to start out with. But i'd say avoid the worst PoS brands. The first electric guitar i bought was like $60 but it had a skewed neck so it was impossible to play anything in tune. Epiphone, Ibanez and Yamaha are good brands to stick with for good quality vs price, be it electric or acoustic. I'd recommend starting out with an acoustic though. Better excecise for the fingers and less room to fiddle about with effects to cover uo your shortcomings ;)

I'm listening to the newish Machine Head album. I put it off because I saw so many negative impressions online. Now, knowing just how bad Machine Head can be, I expected the worst. They've been on a gigantic upswing (Through the Ashes of Empires, The Blackening), but I don't doubt that they can fall back on horribleness. What a weird and inconsistent band.

But "Unto the Locust" isn't nearly as bad as something like "Supercharger." Hell.. it's no "The Blackening," but I don't think it's particularly bad at all. This pleases me as I have tickets to see them in February.

at first I was like, "Hey, don't mock me!"
then I was like, "Hey, want a beer ;)"

but then I realized I was the only one in the room, so I got a coffee.

It's going to be one of those days
