2009-10-11 11:31:18 I had a launch 360 that broke down last month.. I opened her up. Cleaned out all of the shit inside (there wasn't any cooling paste on the chip). --- |

Posted by ManThatYouFear Who came up with the towel idea in the first place ? it sounds as mad as putting it in a microwave.. I wouldn't try the microwave though, unless you want a light show. |

2009-10-12 02:20:46 In reply to GriftGFX (2009-10-12 00:44:51) Posted by FireWire Mine was a Launch 360, If you could've just seen the state it was in... I am in no doubt, MS rushed the 360 to launch before the PS3 and left a couple of "minor" faults... It's sad to see how they could have put such a product on the market. But I bet they think it was worth it.... Posted by GriftGFX Well, I wouldn't assume that every RROD is the same. I didn't even get an error message. For what is worth, my third one is giving me issues with the DVD drive, so I just bought one off of ebay, hopefully that solves my issues. --- |

2009-10-12 09:10:21 In reply to LEBATO (2009-10-12 02:20:46) A mate of mine had dvd problems as well and got another DVD drive like you. Problem is, your DVD drive is linked to your 360 via some unique identifier. Meaning, it won't work unless it has that same code. --- |

2009-10-12 11:03:37 My mate owns a computer shop in portsmouth, 4 months prior to the launch he was telling me how the launch was going to be delayed because in his words "they dont work" i at the time laughed him off calling him full of shit --- |

He couldn't be arsed to go through all that crap so in the end he just got another 360 alltogether. Just a heads up... At this point, if my box broke and was out of warranty, I would get an arcade for double the repair price, but not just for a faulty drive. --- |

Although, come to think of it...It'd probably only work with the same type of drive... Edit: Do I get a 3 year warranty again, or was that only for launch consoles? --- |

2009-11-03 00:14:15 I got the RROD on Friday, and I posted this on forums of the group I regularly play with: Is the light flashing like a Christmas tree? Are you experiencing DDE's? Are you under warranty? Take these tips from The Elder G! BEFORE YOU CALL TECH SUPPORT The first thing ya' wanna do is check out the FAQ... http://www.xboxfaq.com/ No help there??? Okay, your xbox has crapped out. You want to call Microsoft and find out what to do. BOOM! You've already ruined your chance to purchase an extended warranty. You can purchase the warranty, regardless of when you initially bought your Xbox, if you meet the following criteria... 1) You HAVE NOT called Microsoft previously regarding problems with your Xbox. 2) You HAVE NOT opened/altered/modded your xbox console. 3) You live in the United States. HOW MUCH IS THIS GONNA COST ME? Well, if you don't have coverage under the warranty, it's gonna cost you at least $100.00 (U.S.) plus. {You may be able to bargain them down to $50.00 or so.} However, if you're under warranty, there is no charge after the initial payment for the warranty. 1 year $29.95 2 years $59.90 3 years $89.95 {Prices subject to change at Microsoft's discretion} Okay Okay Warranty Boy, how do I get this magical protection for my Xbox? It's so easy, just call 1-800-4my-xbox (1-800-469-9269) and tell them that you want to buy an extended warranty. Again, you CANNOT tell them of any problem that your Xbox is experiencing. They will ask you for your name, address, phone number, etc. You will need the date you purchased your Xbox, the serial number and a VALID credit card. Don't have a credit card, no problem. Check out this link... http://www.xbox.com/assets/en-us/sup...ntyInvoice.pdf Send a check/money Order, along with the above info to... XBOX SERVICE CONTRACT DEPARTMENT Microsoft Corporation One Microsoft Way Redmond, Washington 98052-9953 Wait until you get your contract in hand before you call for repair service! The turnaround time from the day your xbox is picked up until it's returned to you, is usually seven days. In fact, the longest wait will probably be for the shipping box to arrive from Airborne Express/DHL (The company that ships your xbox to & from the repair center) Note: The majority of problems that people have experienced are with a faulty/damaged dvd assembly. If this is the case, you PROBABLY will NOT lose your game saves/soundtracks. If you have any other problems with your Xbox console or, if your Xbox console has been in for repair two or more times previously, you most likely WILL lose the contents of your harddrive, as Microsoft will replace at least the harddrive & lens assembly, if not the whole xbox. Okay... maybe not so short. |

2009-11-03 02:38:23 You can buy an extended warranty and then call in for a repair the day you receive the new warranty? LOL.. that sounds mighty shady. |

2009-11-03 04:16:46 Well, I had bought my 2 year extended warranty a year into owning my first 360, before, MS offered up the RROD 3 year, because I had heard such horror stories, on failure rates. |
