I did a quick Google search and some people, though it was a couple years ago, switched to DX9, or lowered shadow detail, and got rid of what sounds like a similar problem.

Since 7599 DaysI had a youtube video on pause in a tab in firefox which OBLITERATED the performance in Crysis Warhead and caused all the weird glitches. I guess that could've been the issue I had that other time too, and a restart actually merely closed firefox for me to fix the problem. Weirrrrrd. But also great! Thought things were busted.
