White/discoloured blocks flicker in games

I have some flickering white/coloured blocks on my screen. Went bonkers in Crysis once with white little blocks everywhere and a restart fixed it, but now I'm having them in Stalker too. At least I think it's the same issue. I've not overclocked anything so there's no reason for them to be heat related either.

They seem less symmetric and affect surfaces in Stalker, so maybe it's just visual oddities in that game. :O

Actually it could be, if your fans aren't ramping up enough. do you have some utility that lets you control fan speeds and see temps?

Was also thinking it could be an ATI driver thing, but you'd think by now any problems with Crysis would be resolved.

Maybe it's that crazy config Doom hooked you up with :P

I did a quick Google search and some people, though it was a couple years ago, switched to DX9, or lowered shadow detail, and got rid of what sounds like a similar problem.

Well the Crysis problem went away when I restarted the game, and this problem doesn't no matter how many times I restart Stalker. I installed Crysis Warhead just now on Steam and checked that out, little coloured blocks there too. The irony is that it seems to actually follow the colour of something in the game, because in night vision the blocks were greenish.

It also ran like crap, so I think I'll reboot and see if that solves anything.

I had a youtube video on pause in a tab in firefox which OBLITERATED the performance in Crysis Warhead and caused all the weird glitches. I guess that could've been the issue I had that other time too, and a restart actually merely closed firefox for me to fix the problem. Weirrrrrd. But also great! Thought things were busted.
