Thank you guys for beta testing this and the PS4.
Pretty generous to pay to improve my experience later on

(In all seriousness; at this moment I'm not sure if I will get either one of the new consoles)

Patch download install took about 20 minutes. Battlefield 4 install took about 15 minutes it seemed, and then it would allow me to play single player, another half hour, and it said the full game had installed. Times are general estimates, but that is what it seemed like. I wasn't actually timing them.

Xbox voice recognition is spotty for some things it seems.

Runs super quiet. Interface is almost a quick as I'd hoped.

Interface isn't as intuitive as I'd had hoped.

I hope they get voice recog patched to make it flow nicer, and easier.

I can't seem to set up a DLNA server stream from my laptop?

Getting online was a seamless breeze (hardwired ethernet)

BF4 is the only thing I've played. Graphical upgrade? Yeah, but not that pronounced. It does look really good, I don't notice jaggies or aliasing issues. Head lean with Kinect works OK, you can refine it and dial it in with a slider percentage, I need to tweak it a bit.

It will take some getting used to. I can't figure out how to send someone a voice message or to join party chat... kinda clunky.
I kind of wish that the interface was a cross between what it currently is and what the Xbox 360 is. Again, not as intuitive as I'd hoped. Does look very nice though.

Just some of my quick impressions thus far.

Long Video interview with Sam Lake, talks Alan Wake / Alan Wake 2? / Quantum Break - http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/22/5133164/sam-lake...

Quotes stolen:
"First and foremost, it's a game. It's a big, cinematic, story driven action adventure. In many ways, we're taking everything we've learned from previous games and raising the bar much higher.

At the same time, almost as a feature of the game, it is an entertainment experience, and with that it's a fusion of a game and a live action show. So...once again, like with Alan Wake, we're using episodic TV series-esque basing for the storytelling, but it still ships on one disc, everything, both the game and the show.

And the idea is...they're meant to be consumed together, and the idea is that you first play through an act of the game, and then you get to watch an episode of the show. And so they're...kind of, acts of the game are inter-weaved with the episodes of the show. And what we have there kind of as a connecting tissue is that we have these moments of choice that are related to the fiction of time powers, and the antagonist, Paul Serene (sp?) who has the most powerful time powers of all. He has this, ability, this...junction ability, where he can see glimpses of different futures, of different timelines.

And actually in these junction moments, it's always like...a dynamic, player created cliffhanger at the end of each act of the game. You get to play the bad guy, you get to explore these glimpses and visions of two different futures at each junction point, and you make a choice which future comes to be. And with that, we shift to an episode of the show, and immediately there at the beginning of each episode, the first scene already clearly shows you alternate content depending on which choice you make.

And it works both ways, so very much, kind of, what you have in the game and what you do in the game reflects your custom experience of the show, but then again when you watch an episode of the show, you see things, learn things, that are clues for you when you go back to the next act of the game and play it through, with those clues you can find certain things and unlock further material."

Are the TV episodes really short, so they essentially act as cut-scenes? Or are they optional? I'm not sure how i feel about being forced to watch TV when all i want to do is play a game? Heavy rain like interactive movies, as movie like as they are, are still interactive. This is just watching TV...and probably bad TV at that.

They are optional, you can watch them all at once or skip them all together and just play through the game, and I for one will play and watch the episodes, as I’m very intrigue to see how it flows and how my choices affect the next episode.

So you don't lose anything by not watching them? If not, that's cool.

Not really, there seems to be some more material you can unlock if you follow the epicodes, but no biggie.

So the Tv shows are like the halo books. An nice companion to the games story, but not needed to follow and enjoy the story within the game itself.

Or, as another example. Like the dead space cartoons you can get on DVD that add to the universe but don't detract from the games if you don't watch them?
In reply to

Sounds Deeper than those examples to me, but yeah if you just want to play the game you can the story is all there for those that just want that. For those that want to watch the episodes they will find out more backstory on the characters and story along with hints at we're additional content can be found in he next game act. The episodes also reflect the game choice you made in the previous act, so it's all connected and not disjointed.

Got my box via UPS at 5 pm y'day, after a whole day of anticipated wait. Runs like a charm, though I can hear the fan doing a lite wooshing sound. But I'm very sensitive to those things. Of course, Voice Recognition doesn't work in Austria, although we speak German. I knew that.

What I didn't know is the fact that you cannot use the system in english, when you're from Austria. So I set UK as my locale [voice recognition now works in English], to have games and subtitles in english. Hopefully it will get patched out.

Downloading the Day One patch also were a few minutes only for me. Disc-Drive is fine [tested Risky Business on BluRay]. Played Killer Instinct and really enjoyed it. Downloading games takes very long though because of the size. RYSE is at 91 % with DR, Fifa and Forza in queue. RYSE was 11 % when I went to bed 6 hours ago. So actually it's my maximum download rate.

Love the voice commands. If you say Xbox then all possible commands are written with a green font. Makes it very easy. Works 90 %. Sometimes it seems not to want to listen ... hahahaha

Very happy with my purchase. Will play RYSE now, as it is 92 % and more than ready to get started :D

PS: Gamestop-Employee rumour about a second free game for Day One Edition owners turned out not to be true - bummer.

You mean you don't have a physical copy of Ryse, and you are downloading the game right? That is not the install time is it?

Bought Crimson Dragon and Zoo Tycoon as well now, ZT is only 2.6 GB

Operating System: some things are hard to find, but that's logical with a new OS I guess until you get used to it.

I couldn't find the demo section so far, as I want to download that sexy NBA 2K14 demo :(

Here are the digital download sizes if you buy games digital:

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag - 20GB
Battlefield 4 - 33GB
Call of Duty: Ghosts - 39GB
Dead Rising 3 - 19GB
FIFA 14 - 8GB
Fighter Within - 9.2GB
Forza Motorsport 5 - 31GB
Just Dance 2014 - 22GB
Killer Instinct - 3.4GB
Lococycle - 13GB
Madden NFL 25 - 12GB
NBA 2K14 - 43GB
NBA Live 14 - 9GB
Powerstar Golf - 3.9GB
Ryse: Son of Rome - 34GB
Skylanders: Swap Force - 15GB
Xbox Fitness - 246MB
Zoo Tycoon - 2.6GB
Zumba World Party - 24GB

I don't really have a problem with this part, so long as you're selling me a service that's not tied to a platform with an expiration date.

Until there's an upfront promise of forwards & backwards compatibility, digital purchases are basically rentals tied to a single platform that will be dead in less than ten years.

Yeah that sucks definitely.
Any game will be boring and unplayed at some point for me, I do want to get something out of it so trading it out of the question if you go digital, something I will never do.
