Ahh, I can do without planes, but that will have to be evened out by some massive and a lot of indoor enviroments.

Eh, no big deal.. and very understandable. R* gets enough heat as is -- and honestly -- GTA was never really about flying. So long as there is still an attack helo I can do without passanger aircraft. Saints Row doesn't even let you fly anything at all.. and it's hardly the vehicle upgrade that will make GTA IV a much better experience.

Here's a summary of the avaiable info so far from www.gta4.net:

Full Summary:

- The protagonist's name is Niko Bellic who is from somewhere in Eastern Europe.

- The GTA 4 equivalent of the Statue of Liberty is called the Statue of Happiness, and DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is known as BOABO (Beneath the Offramp of the Algoquin Bridge Overpass).

- In Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar have recreated 4 of the 5 boroughs in New York, as well as part of New Jersey.
The map is smaller than San Andreas, but considerably more detailed. No countryside or desert we are led to believe.

- Broker is the GTA IV equivalent of Brooklyn, Manhattan is now called Algonquin, Queens is now Dukes, the Bronx is Bohan, and New Jersey is Alderney.

- Pedestrians are far more realistic in GTAIV than in previous GTA games - they sit on benches, smoke cigarettes, read books and carry out various other activities.

- The screenshots in the preview are not representative of the final quality of graphics. The game will only look better as the release draws closer. Unless it pulls an ME on us and get's a massive downgrade.

- Niko was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin Roman, who claimed to have two beautiful women, fast cars, and lots of money etc, but he was infact telling a lie in order to hide his own failures. Roman is the only person you know in Liberty City at the beginning of the game, and he becomes one of your major connections from the start.

- Multiplayer is set to be announced...

- You can use a cellphone to call your contacts.

- Apparently there are no planes because there is only one city in the game.

- You have a lot of choice over what you want to do. You still have to take orders from people during missions, but you can also choose how you want to spend your time, e.g "I want to hang out with him, or her... I want to go see this guy 'cause he always has something to do..."

- The story unfolds in a number of different ways. R* is giving people more freedom, more choice and more sense of control over their destiny - the structure of the storyline is quite different to previous games.

- The demo which Game Informer played was for the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Also rusty no planes a big enough reason to not buy the game? I'd say Rockstar saved themselves one less thing for people to complain and want to sue them over.

New details surface you can go off into space and spacejack alien spaceships and other spaceships you may come across =P

No planes, huge disappointment. That really does suck. I wonder if it was because of the 9/11 stuff, I wonder if the city will be really small, and I wonder if it was a technical problem trying to stream the world that fast.

I really don't get how protecting themselves from extra controversy is nonsense.. so long as there are still helo's -- who cares if there aren't 747's.

I don't see the issue really. They're going to take a lot of heat over the setting anyway and as a New Yorker I almost appreciate their caution.

The game will still be quite crazy without those kinds of aircraft. It's still GTA and it's still the grand-daddy of sandbox games and I don't doubt that it will surpass the competition.

I agree with Grift it doesn't need planes and it's still the grand daddy of sandbox. It will definitely surpass the competition. Jin it may sound like saints row because it will be much much better. Or maybe it's more accurate to say GTA4 sounds just like GTA since that is what saints row copied.

The geographical area isn't as big as san andreas, but its a lot more detailed than San Andreas and unlike San Andreas not an inch of it is wasted or dedicated to large stretches of country or desert.

Wasnt much of a fan of GTA SA, Vice City was by far the best GTA in my opinion
