But LEBATO for one always points out graphical flaws, in almost every game he comments about, now im not saying this is a bad thing, maybe he looks for graphics over gameplay.
His whole argument about Forza 2 has been about graphics, but end of the day graphics don't really impact gameplay much.
Forza 2 looks to be a better game (or at least more my type of game) as far as driving games go, no amount of graphical flare will change that.
Sure PGR4 will look better than Forza 2 but unless it changes other things like AI and steering/Physics it will be just the same game with a new set of paint.
And I actually wonder how many of the people preaching Forza 2's physics model as the second coming are really the people who will even get the most mileage out of it.. the pure sim mode gameplay isn't even really meant for the entire F2 audience. The most appealing aspect of the game for many people will come down to customization and tuning.. and not the advanced handling.

PGR happens to be a brilliant series of games, and each has improved considerably on the last game, gameplay included.

As for Gotham. I think you're mostly full of it. The game is praised by many, many people.. so keep on telling me what you think someone said about the game. I'm positive there are people out there that won't care much for Forza 2 -- but hype the living shit out of it anyway. Lets just ignore the fact that the game is globally celebrated as one of (one of? the) best looking racing games out there today (two years later).. and easily the most impressive launch title.
And the assists weren't designed to be "just for noobs." They said from the beginning that the target audience for the pure sim mode is about 15% of the overall audience for their game.. that's how many people they want playing in simulation mode.. because if it's that punishing.. they're doing it right.
And there's plenty of appeal to Forza 2 outside of advanced physics/handling. Tuning and customization is a huge part of this game.
I honestly don't get what the big deal is anyway. So PGR looks a hair better in some ways than Forza 2.. why is everyone getting so defensive? It's not like by saying that we're invalidating any of the things that Forza 2 does better.. it's just an observation.. it's just a game.
PGR4 looks incredible already.. that's not a bad thing. Oh.. and opinions can change. That doesn't make you a hypocrite it just means you're keeping an open mind.

Its looks superb to me the rain on the car is quite something best rain effect in car game period especially the rain on car bonnet. ?
What got to remember though that this looks like a replay mode which in turn quite possibly has added effects. Its must buy for me PGR3 was superb this cant be any worse surely. ?

that video, nice video....but the rain was horrid (nice water texture on cars) , but cant realy tell much when the majority was of the cars speeding past the camer
it was obviously a replay vid (not actual in game) and when tha cars were paused, i saw tha same amount of jaggies as there are in F2 when paused in replay mode
PGR4 needs to step up its handeling and AI as they were shit in PGR3

That's kind of scary, bikes in a PGR, bikes competing against cars..........hmn, they better get that handling and movement of the bikes correct, but balancing must be a huge tast, so they better work it out nicely.

Well the 360 version can't really top getting the demo with the Live kit for the original Xbox. Thrill of proper online console gaming (with voice chat!) and like.. EVERYONE played it so it was always full of people. It's always going to be synonymous with online fun during some of the most exciting Xbox 1 times for me. :)
As for bikes in car games, weren't there bikes in TDU?

TDU is a different kind of racing game all together though.. what works there might not translate well into Project Gotham. Which is already (obvioulsy) a much better game to begin with.
Since 1202 Days
2007-05-12 01:16:33
Well I imagine if they could compete at all in TDU then with the added focus of Bizarre's game it could only be better than that. The only real problem I can think of is if they're not balanced well compared to the cars in the game.
There were bikes in Midnight Club 2 too now that I think about it.. Can't really remember what they were like, but there was actually a fair few that used them online.

Well.. in TDU I generally avoid bikes (I don't race any in the game either).. because their acceleration and handling makes them pretty ridiculous.. I wouldn't call it evenly balanced. But that's a different sort of setting too. I've yet to see a mixed event in single player mode.. though I haven't played it much to be honest.

Physics in TDU are mediocre, not even at PGR3's level. TDU's bikes' physics are impossible to describe in just one word, mediocre falls way too short of how bad they are.

My main beef is artistic: I think BC made a poor decision on the time of day for PR footage. Dusk/Dawn and/or overcast are the most difficult things to simulate. You are left relying heavily on ambient lighting which, due to basically nill indirect illumination in current rasterization it can totally throw off the graphics. Name a game, any game, that has footage outside of the sunlight or dark with spot lights and I can show you how crappy the lighting model is, all essentially going back to the fact that there is a static ambient light setting instead of radiosity.
That said I was pretty floored with what they were able to do with the poor lighting conditions. The paint shader on the cars rocks, better than GT HD (and 8 cars!), the reflections are SPOT on with EXCELLENT HDR in the reflections. The car models were great, rain was everything from acceptible (rain drops, road mist) to awesome (rain shader on cars). The glass shaders are spot on, and the geometry is oustanding. The textures on the world are also very nice, as are the roads. A couple times I was saying, "Ok, this is a photomode shot" and then a car zoomed by. DOF and MB are all well done, as are the HDR effects (the iris effect, tone mapping, and bloom) -- excellent job of NOT over doing them, but balancing them out.
Basically PGR4 just showed how to include cutting edge technology while not castrating your art design. At at 720p, very nice MSAA, HDR, etc. Besides the time of day / weather conditions (minus for the low contrasty lighting, plus on the rain), the only glaring negative I saw was the fact the people look poorly. Not as bad as other racers mind you, and you won't see them up close in game so they work, but up close meh.
Overall BC just showed us some of the most difficult stuff to pull off -- overcast lighting and rain -- and hit a homerun. Never mind they all appear to actually be using AF (gasp!) and the textures actually LOOK like the system has 512MB of memory, unlike many MANY other games out there. The fact I am not getting my eyes gouged out by aliasing from the cars (e.g. vents on the blue car) is a nice change of pace from the "crisp HD" other games are bragging about.
While we will have to wait to see what actual confirmed gameplay looks like, we do know that they CANNOT be pulling a Forza Motorsport 2 in replay mode because FM2 drops the framerate in half whereas the PGR4 footage shown is obviously 30fps. There is no reason they could apply significantly more in a replay at 30fps that they couldn't do in gameplay 30fps.
Further, Forza 2 is chalk full of edge aliasing, texture aliasing, shader aliasing, aliasing from render targets (especially their HDR effects), and even in their reflections.
Sorry, the footage we just saw from PGR4 has SIGNIFICANTLY less aliasing.
I do love the trend though of "FM2 best looking racer ever" and then comments like "PGR3 looks better than PGR4". At least all the inaccurate technical comments pretty sum up the agendas!

Wishlist: PGR4 with a FF wheel, 2K Legends Football, and Halo 3 with an XFPS controller. And I can dream that Halo Wars will be a Battlezone PC clone...
