If the game wants to get the "Games for Windows" label it will need to support the 360 controller, so we will find out more then >:)

Well, I base my conclusion on having played Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2003 extensively on the PC, then having played Unreal Championship and Unreal Championship 2 (2 in particular) a huge bunch on the Xbox. I dunno if later UTs have changed a lot, but I wouldn't place it in the Quake category of *keeping your reticle on people for long periods of time* shooters at all, and a lot of the time there's quite some distance between you and the enemy in UT simply based on the fact that the weapons are for the most part designed that way.
To me there's a space where you have to be in order to work with a pad. It's inbetween twitch shooters (that I consider Quake to be) and the Battlefield like games. Those two extremes, for different reasons, are really difficult to play with pads because they require either blazing fast reflex aim or fluid, tracking aim, both of which are extremely difficult to pull off on a pad. UT to me winds up in the same space as Shadowrun seems to inhabit.

Playing UT v consolegamers will be fun, total slaughter.. LOL!! :)
Only mode that might work with console v PC is onslaught, I would stay far away from DM etc (not even mentioning instagib).. Hardcore PC UT players would not lose a single kill to a consolegamer in DM, no matter how good he/she is with a controller.. A controller is simply way to slow and unprecise for fastpaced DM games like UT (and Quake etc)..

UT is definitly something I would call a twitch shooter, going all the way back to UT99. I agree with Inflatable, Onslaught (UT's BF/Tribes mode) would be the only way to play it.

Well, maybe my definition is just less loose then, because the only kind of games I consider twitchy are ones where I either need to keep the reticle on someone (shaft in Q1) or where I need to.. well twitch to shoot people really (rail from Q2/Q3A).
Unreal Championship is essentially UT2003, and for me personally I have much less problems playing that thanks to the way weapons work.
That said I'm not really into PC anymore, so my definition might simply be off the mark. I know for absolutely sure I'd rather take a mouse player on in UT than.. pretty much any other arcadeish PC shooter I can think of, especially Q 1-3.

Yeah I think you're off Simon, because UT has plenty of hitscan weapons that require twitchy fast, and precise aming..

Actually, that's a good wiki entry to point out what I feel is the most difficult to use on a pad; the minigun.
Guns that have me holding the reticle in place, following someone around are the hardest. For me, sniping, shock rifle (even the alternate fire when you hit the energy ball and it explodes) is really no big deal. I still have to aim ahead of enemies to some extent but strafe adjust and a bit of anticipating the other player's moves and I have no real problems with them.
This is how I personally feel about it anyway. Machine guns are a different matter alltogether though, when the time spent firing at the enemy becomes paramount (and you usually go up against people with machine guns more often since they're more common in most games) it's impossible to match that with a pad.
EDIT: Another point I forgot to make about Quake is that they were more vertical. You jumped higher and there was loads of firing in every direction, up and down included. Since most console games have lower sensitivity for the Y axis, it's incredibly hard to keep up the precision when you're waving your POV around. UT99 had lots of maps that had you shooting down or upwards, but in those cases the distances were greater and again gave you a better line of fire.

Until I played Unreal Championship 2, I wouldn't have believed that you could play an Unreal game well on a gamepad at all, but they delivered. I'm sure they'll offer up plenty of love to make sure this controls extremely well on the gamepad, I just don't think it's really fair to put PC against console here. But like I said before, if there are appropriate filters I could see it working out, too. At that point you'd have to really wonder why I can't just use my USB keyboard and mouse on my 360. I personally believe in that option.

I even played Unreal Championship 2 with a mouse and keyboard adapter a bit, and it was awesome. For an unofficial adapter, it was almost as if that game were meant to support it (I know it wasn't). Good stuff.
Anyway, new hands on preview of UT3 (screens/art):

I was a PIONEEER, getting all my PC games to accept my wonky dual analogue pad. I played both UT and AQ2 through TV out with a gamepad and voice chat before I even had an Xbox.
It got too messy to set up on a regular basis though.

Looks like Gears of War. I imagined of how Gears would look like if it was in FPS, and here it comes, UT3 is the answer, looks AMAZING!.
I hope Remus or Romulus is back on this one. I am very unsure if of this title, if I am gonna get it or not, better games are coming out. Have to think about it, but non the less...great visuals.

Has competition there too though, with Halo, Team Fortress, Frontlines, Shadowrun, etc..
It's like all of the developers are trying to make up for the fact that 2006 was such a slow and shitty year for FPS :)
I can't wait to see how the mod scene reacts to this title. Carmack said that TC's were a think of the past, because games were getting too complicated, but we'll see how true that statement is soon enough. When I see mods like Dystopia, Nuclear-Dawn, and Forgotten Hope 2 coming out of that scene, I still think there's plenty of room left for future total conversions. A group is already working on the first TC for UT3, "Southern Rise", the art assets look awesome.

I for one have UT2004, and back then I wasentall "nerdy" to understand the sepcs and such, so I bought it because the trailers was cool and all and I wanted to play it, but when I came home to play it it worked and all, but I had to have the options on low or medium, never on high, so I never got to experience the full out UT2004.
I also bought Star Wars Republic Commando and it was a awesome game for the Pc, but yet I had to go with low and medium setting, because I didnt have Xbox live on the old Xbox. So I have been waiting for a path for the 360 to have SW Republic Commando to be BC, so I might get it. Rumor even has it that there MIGHT be a SW Republic Commando 2 for the next-gen, well I hope so.

I might fall into that first group you mentioned, where I play the console version since my PC can't swing it the way I want. I may just end up waiting until my PC can though, because unless I get full kb+M support, and can play on PC servers, it's a downgrade in a different sense..and I don't think those features are very likely on either console port.
It's still awesome for people who are mostly console-centric though. Everyone gets Epic's love.
Gett'n off topic here but Republic Commando was suprisingly awesome. I would love a new one.

I agree Grift, so I cant comment on the things you said except, I agree.
And I hope a Republic Commando next-gen comes, because if it looks amazing and plays great I might get that.

I kind of like UT/UC the speed is what makes it exciting, unlike boring tactical shooters.
I would consider getting this .... maybe... :S
I'd have to get that XFPS thingy mouse jobby to play it though, I hate playing FPS with a control pad.

Yeah, I also like Rains comment on that they're working hard on the PS3 version, and don't tend to half ass it. lol at the part where the interviewer tried to ask the question will this look better than GOW, and Rain dodged the question. Still overall good interview.
Looks like its a win/win for whichever platform you buy it on. Just for me that will be 360/PC. Nothing against the PS3, well not fanboy dribble, I just can't stand playing FPS with the PS3 controller. If I have to, as the game is only on that system, I can deal. But otherwise, can't do it, and especially Unreal. Just my personal taste. But good to hear PS3 owners who get this, won't get some dumbed down version, and it should look and play equally the same, for the most part.

I need a good alternative pad for the PS3. The DualShake is OKAY, but I'm not a big fan of the triggers or analog stick placement. Hopefully the PS3 version supports mouse and keyboard. I still won't get it though--they could only get me to purchase a console version if it also supported PC servers.
