I'll believe it when I see it. with 1 million units sold only in two weeks I doubt microsoft is going to give downloadable content for free. I could be wrong though.

They will if they want to continue driving sales and want people to continue falling in love with the game.

It could also convince people on the fence to make a purchase since an already incredible game is being improved.

I believe that it will come, Epic has always given free stuff as grift says, and i believe epic has more power in this then MS, cause epic can always make a bad sequal really fast, or just make the game not as supported as it should (updates, content and so on).

I Believe that in this, Epic has the power.

I think we're being a bit harsh on Microsoft here, the DLC offerings for their First party stuff has generally been good value. (PGR3 car packs, Kameo, PDZ maps etc). Not so sure about Viva Pinata though.

The horse armour was only ever an experiment, Bethseda said as much at the time they didn't really know where their price point was and everything going forward was excellent value. I fail to see why people keep going on about it.

I agree Chapter 2 for GRAW was expensive and we all know about EA but I think you're looking at the publishers there, not MS. If Epic said it will be free, I'm sure it will be. I'm just hoping for more than just maps.

Of course not they probably got it taken care of, but Epic I'm sure (if they aren't treated right by Microsoft) are within their legal right to bring it somewhere else.

Microsoft is no idiot so clearly they'll maintain a great relationship with Epic to prevent that, but at the same time epic is no fool either I'm sure they aren't tied up in any sort of contracts that would prevent them from bringing it elsewhere if they wanted to. Tim Sweeney is not a fool.

Microsoft have Gears tied to the 360, I guarantee it. I would imagine Epic are handsomely compensated for it aswell.

The only way you'll see Gears on a console other than a Microsoft branded one is if they get out of the business or severely breach the contract.

MS didnt get to where it is by being stupid. Management wise, marketing wise, id say MS are geniuses... And honestly the MS xbox team seem like great ppl that love games, peter moore, major nelson etc... so dont worry things are fine, besides at this stage MS is more interested with fan base instalment rather then some pety cash from DLC.
On a later note, i wonder if GoW 2 is using the same engine, U3 engine seems like its here for a while, but duno how much more you can push it, GoW looks so good already (im comparing with Halo and Halo 2, the later being considerably better looking)

Gears 2 will certainly use Unreal Engine 3, and it will certainly scale far beyond Gears of War. Hell, UT2k7 is a more expansive and impressive looking game, technically, and just look at the legs UE2.5 had--Splinter Cell Double Agent certainly blows away UT2k4.

UE3 will definitly be around for a while.

After this I wouldn't be suprised if it were part of his bonus :)

He deserves it though, he worked his way up from the bottom, and as his first game as lead designer, I think he's done something really special. Really fantastic job.
