imo oblivion should be...yea gears is better atm but oblivion is the game that showed me what next gen was all about.

bleh, Zelda should of got it, but then again, they did give it an 8.8.. -_- Or if not Zelda, Freaking Lost Planet. Yes I said it, Lost Planet. All those games are lucky it comes out in Jan 12 '07, they dodged a huge bullet. Thats right, BELIEVE The Hype!

This is a strange situation to me.. and it's sort of a strange decision and Gears is a strange.. game.. and.. uh.. phenomenon in itself.. So my conclusion is strange aswell.

After going this over in my mind, Gears is an INCREDIBLY well produced game that oozes quality from top to bottom.. and also the apropriate.. Z axis.

Even though what it does sometimes gives you a sense of deja vu, and even though on a whole it might not be as admirable as you might expect from a game that scores that high and has been hyped that much, within its own framwork it's simply astonishing. No other game this year feels so tight, so maxed out, so visually and audibly complete, no matter where you stand in terms of its gameplay merits.

Oblivion, compared to Gears, is a fucking wreckage of framerate issues, weird jittery loading and LOD problems, no matter how admirable that is in terms of what it DOES do. See how the conclusion is a bit strange?

Well strange as it may be, it makes sense to me, so I do agree and sign whatever papers need be signed.

Of course, if it wasn't for the inherent impossibility of a handheld game getting overall GOTY, my pick would be Elite Beat Agents. Frankly, that's - with quite a margin - still my number one choice.

I agree with this 100%. I have Okami, FFXII, RS: Vegas and Oblivion, however since I got Gears I have been able to stop playing it. It has issues for sure, but so does every game I listed. IMO, Gears is easily best third person shooter I have played in the last decade.
