2007-02-25 06:46:55 Mass Effect how many discs??? 4!!!

Take away 3 and you are left with 1 :)

http://blogs.ign.com/BioWare_Games/2007/02/23/4764...

Mass Effect uses 1 disc.

Does “Mass Effect” fit on one disc?
Yep, but just barely. This is a monstrous game. In fact, there was a time – not too long ago – when we pretty much scoffed at the idea of fitting onto one disc. But, there’s an art to optimizing the data that goes on a disc – plus we have a few programmers that seem to pull off magic tricks right when we need them.

Think about Knights of the Odl Republic, remove the Star Wars theme and add original sci-fi theme and story and there you go.Its not harder than that. And add Oblivions customization.

Yeah Casey said that the designers have their own magical ways to fit everything on 1 disc.

Well I remember Ray said this in the Teamxbox interview about a week ago

"I think it’s going to be about 40 hours or so for the main story, so it’s going to be a good-sized BioWare RPG just for the core part. Off the beaten path, there’s probably another 20 or 30 hours or so of stuff, or more, depending on how much you do and what order you do it in and all of that. It’s this non-linear exploration of uncharted worlds."

Yeah but al those hours will be the first gameplay through, what about you gonna create another characters and class, and then another one with different ways to finish it.

I tihnk Mass Effect will be unlimited depending on how you are gonna play it.
I am gonna gonna play 3 times all serious characters and stats and so on. But after that then its all fun parts, be powerful and evil hehe.

all in all, it depends on how you are gonna play the game.

Sounds like you can probably do mostly everything with one character to me, but we'll see. 60-70 hours of content isn't bad. It's not Baldur's Gate big--but it's longer than KOTOR.

Unless, like other games that have the whole morality thing going for them, it only really comes down to one key decision that changes the endings (like KOTOR).

i passed Zelda in 50 hours and i didn't even finish all of the side quest. the textures were crap but the game was engaging after the first 3 hours.

ok, i had a point to what i was trying to say but it seemed to have flown by.

it had to do with something along the lines of Zelda being longer and better. oh and if its as long as Zelda with high def everything then we should be good on a DVD9.

something like that lol

Yup, the length is fine for me, and I will do another play through just for the hell of it, even if there isn't any different endings or stuff like that.

Hmm, its been a while though since I played KOTOR, it was around 25 hours, right?

I was actually wondering about this the other day, but i think its' fairly obvious 1 disc would be enough.

BD would have easily fit on 1 disc if it wasn't for HD-FMV.

I doubt this game uses FMV at all, i don't think it really matters, swapping disc's is no biggy, especially where RPG's are concerned.

It would be a biggy if they couldn't fit the entire explorable area on every disc, but they wouldn't do that. How annoying would it be if everytime you wanted to travel to a certain planet in Mass Effect (or town in Oblivion) you had to swap discs? Since there's no CG, that's the only reason you'd have to swap at all. The game isn't linear, so this wouldn't work at all..

That's why I'm not sure how suprising this could possibly be. Mass Effect wouldn't work across multiple discs, and I don't know why anyone would expect it to appear on anymore than one DVD.

Because not everything would have to be recreated, many of the scripted scenes on disc one could be removed as long as they didn't reoccur.

And i guess it wouldn't hurt if you went back to X planet and the bar there was closed for refurbishments, or you coudln't land because there was a voilent storm taking place.

There are ways around it, as long as it doesn't effect the progression of the story and objection of the game it shouldn't matter, no point visiting a planet if there is nothing to do there.
