She could also just be another NPC for all we know. We've seen a similar female character in previous screen shots along side the generic Shepard design.

It is possible. However it is far more likely that this is just the 'Ashley' character in a different colored uniform/armor. Doesn't really matter though. Both my male and female characters will likely look different from anything Bioware will do.

I think the armor color and the N7 on the right side of the chest in both that girl and shephard's usual pictures might be the dead giveaway that what we saw there was a female shephard. It might not be, but it seems they wanted to sneak it in there.

The suit is exactly the same except its on a girl.

It could be--it could also just be the armor that she's wearing. Keep in mind that you can equip that sort of thing across all of your characters, depending on its requirement. It's a little hard to tell without more information..but it could be.

It doesn't really matter though--it still does not show off customization at all--we can't even see her face :P

Also, there's another female character who is ALWAYS wearing her helmet in all of the screen shots, with simular armor..for all we know it could just be her with the N7 armor equipped. The suite may be exactly the same--but Shepard does not need to wear that armor--clothing is not part of a characters design in this game, it's something they wear.

Could be though..

I wonder how being female will alter the story. In KOTOR playing a female character actually takes away from the narrative a bit, because it has an impact on your relationships with other characters..seemed sorta obvious to me that the male story is the one they wanted to tell.

I am getting somewhat tired of everyone wants to see the female Shepard. For all we know, Ashlley could be looking like a female Shepard. Besides BioWare is keep showing us except in couple of screens Ashley having a helmet.
That female character could be your character you "can" create, because you can't see her face through the helmet.

Anyway, the screens of Saren and the Geth is just breath taking. That is like the closest thing you could get to Gears of Wars visuals in some scenes. When I saw it, my jaw just dropped and I looked at it in a few minutes.

PS. The eyes of Saren is really creeping me out. Light blue alien eyes, grrrr *shivers*

This is most definitely gonna show off 360s visual potential along with Gears. Mass Effect IS gonna be THE most greatest game out. And knowing this is a exclusive to the 360 and Microsoft is the publisher, I am just gad I purchased the 360 in the first place because Mass Effect was my ONLY reason to buy a Xbox 360, and other games are just bonus such as Fable 2, Too Human, Dark Sector...etc.
