Our videos of MGS HD Vita

Our videos of MGS HD Vita

Apart from the excellent Gravity Rush about a week ago, PS Vita owners have not had much to keep busy in the past few months. It is probably why Konami decided to port its Metal Gear HD Collection to Sony's handheld, unfortunately not without forgetting Peace Walker in the process. There are most probably economical reasons for this, since the game can be pruchased on PS Store in its PSP version, and it's a shame, but you still get a lot of content from the two games available. MGS 2 comes with the extra Missions (VR and alternative) and the Snake Tales, while MGS 3 feature the old MSX2 episodes (Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake).

A few words on the quality of the port before you watch our high quality videos. Graphically, the two games are very faithful to the original versions, with great attention to detail, few aliasing issues and nice character models. The HD label enhances the overall look of the game, and although shadows are not as sharp as they are on 360 or PS3, MGS 2 and 3 both look good on the 5 inch screen of the Vita. Framerate is also very smooth most of the time, and from what we can tell, it runs at 60 frames per second in almost all circumstances. Sure, both titles clearly don't look as impressive as recent games like Golden Abyss, but the visuals are nice enough for a handheld device if you ask me.

If this had come with peace walker, i'd have bought it. But it seems crazy to buy this more expensive vita version, when you get more with the less expensive home console version.

I could list more of varying quality, but 1. I dont think he actually cares nor do i think he ever even considered buying a vita, great games or not. And 2. I dont want to "do a corellianrogue". ;)

Plus, he said "any original games" i only needed one to make his point invalid....job done :D

DJMax Technika Tune, Everybody's Golf, Little Deviants, Lumines Electronic Symphony, Reality Fighters, Resistance: Burning Skies, Shinobido 2: Tales of the Ninja, Soul Sacrifice, Uncharted, Unit 13, Sumioni, Touch My Katamari, and so on and so forth. The problem with the Vita's game line up is that they threw all the games out at once, not that they didn't release any.

Original could be new IP's. Could also just be games that arnt ports. In which case, uncharted, resistance etc ARE original vita titles. Unless i missed the PS3 release of golden abyss and burning skies? Doubtful tho...

Or do you consider the DS/3DS releases of zelda games and mario games etc unoriginal too? Seeing as the completely different yet related home console versions are far better? Be stupid logic? But i'm throwing it out there...just curious?

but those are dumb down versions of PS3 versions. and what makes the PS3 version so good is the spectacular visuals and set pieces... Vita doesnt deliver on this especially in the uncharted game which NEEDS those set pieces and amazing graphics. Vita graphics are good for a handheld but not good enough. my bro has the PSV so i have played it, the thing is he hasnt touched it since the 1st week. and when he does he just plays GTA Liberty and vice city stories which are old games

That's your "bros" problem then. Send him my pity. And golden abyss was great. Easily surpassed the first PS3 release, great visuals, not just for a handheld, but in general, great characters, great story... So as i was saying, what constitutes an "original" release in your world? 1. One that is unique to the console or handheld in question? 2. A new IP? 3. An original premis? Whatever the case, there are games that apply to those definitions. 1. Uncharted, 2. gravity rush, 3. escape plan...but as i said, i highly doubt you'd consider the vita even if it had a million great games. So i dont know why i'm even wasting my time typing this...stay ignorant...after all it's bliss.

This port deserves no publicity... I could go off on Vita's shortcomings but Konami's been really shameless in recent years. Gave Silent Hill to talentless western studio, killed classic Castlevania, and where's MGS5? Enjoy your ports and NG ripoff instead!

MGS5 was announced to be in development today i think. Silent hill downpour was better then the POS they tried to sell as a HD collection. And ports of great games are fine with me...now, if they start porting army men: sarges hero's or barbies horse adventures...then i'll have an issue with it, not that i'm forced to buy these games or anything...lol

strange blur in the MGS2 video...great ports though, its amazing how these games are even running on a portable machine...amazing technology

Unfortunately I haven't really played my Vita since I bought it a while back.. I love to pick it up, play with it, get on the ps store in hopes of something new showing up, etc... But nothing has excited me yet. I'll probably get Uncharted at some point but I was somewhat disappointed in the demo immediately noticing the game was extremely aliased and running at a sub native resolution. Man I hope this issue doesn't plague the PSV like it plagues this generation of so called HD consoles..
Maybe I'll convert a movie or something tonight into native 960x544 and see if I can excite myself over the display or something. Surely someday some impressive games will start rolling out.

again none of those are worth price of a PS3 game.. they are worse versions, short games that cost same as a PS3 game. you say uncharted on vita is better then Uncharted 1.. well uncharted 1 is like £5 to play, Vita one is £35

Me and my "bro" are not the only ones not playing the Vita even if they have it, just look at the majority of people on forums and journalists aswell. everyone expected unique Vita games at E3 but where were they?

They advertized vita as console experience on the go to differentiate from other handhelds, smart phones. Vita got everything it just needs to be affordable. I will get it as well some time later

The "bro" plays only GTA on the Vita? Like korn said, send him our regards. Enough said. BTW Vita has been out less than 4 months so far. There was less games on PS3 after 4 months when it came out and the Uncharted claim is invalid because Uncharted wasn't 5 quid to play in Dec 07 when in was released 9 months after PS3 was out. Vita is getting its own MGS game 4 months after launch, much better than what 3DS owners had to go through after a year to get the worse version of MGS3 ever. Nobody ever said Vita can do graphics the same or better than the raw power of PS3 so I don't know where you are coming from.

I think the reason why Vita doesn't have Peace Walker is to do with the fact that Sony for now has capped the media to 4gb, considering they were even able to fit both MGS games on it is already an amazing feat.

+1

It's shocking to see how many people brush aside a game and assume just because it's a handheld game, it can't compete against the big boys.

He said gameS, you listed one. The rest of the Vita library is as bland as unbuttered toast:

Sound Shapes
Lumines: Electronic Symphony
Escape Plan
Rayman Origins
Uncharted Golsen Abyss
Wipeout (yay)
Mortal Kombat
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet Racing
Resistance: Burning Skies
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
PS1 Classics

And whilst granted many of those titles aren't completely stocked with originality they still act as great filler for what is a very content rich games library.

TBH the Vita doesn't lack games it lacks that inimitable experience. People say games sell units but the 360 and even the Wii proves that isn't (REALLY) so.

What each did was show how the console could offer an unfounded experience; 360 with online and Wii with its waggle, Sony need something similar and it may take a game or marketing to show what it is.

Personally I like the idea of the evening settling and not having the appetite for a session of gaming on my consoles, so i play the Vita as its less imposing since playing for 20mins is a possibility because it takes little to no effort to position oneself and flip the switch to begin.

Where the Vita really comes into its own is when you play these console games in the palm of your hand online with friends, whilst chatting and doing all that social stuff, if Sony pushes this then I can see alot of people warming to the idea of the Vita.

.
he also said "any" implying there wasnt any, 1 game was all that was needed.

and as i said, i didnt want to "do a corellianrogue". list a bunch of games that wouldnt change anyones mind about the system when they clearly have no interest in it (like corellianrogue does in regards to the kinect, even though everyone has been vocal about how much they hate it), despite what they say. you obviously dont have a problem doing so tho...so *slow clap*

Oh I forgot about Resistance. I liked the demo and felt the game could not have played any better. The controls were so damn smooth and the sticks felt like I was using a console controller. Looking around and moving was real nice. The only thing that is disappointing are the absolutely horrible shadows. If they could have fixed those shadows the game would have looked real nice. Because of those shitty shadows the game isn't the hottest looking one around.

I will say though that I liked Resistance on the Vita much more than I ever have any of the shit PS3 versions. All of them are shit in my opinion, gameplay wise and visually. I hope they bring a second one to the vita though and improve upon it.

I dont get how you could have enjoyed the vita resistance, but not resistance 1 and 3 in perticular. 3 was the best shooter the year it was released. Great story, great action, great looking. Personally i'd say 3>1>vita>2.
