Xbox 360 PS3

Rockstar organized a press event to showcase GTA IV in England a few days ago, where they released a new bunch of screenshots. We weren't invited, but here are the images. No question, this game is gonna be all kinds of awesome.

this game looks horrible and it has nothing to do with scale...the models are low poly, textures are low res, short draw distance with bad blurring effect, and ugly/boring art style.

Saints row and Crackdown both look far better than this game, and i dont think this could ever come close to being as fun as Crackdown is, especially in co-op.

So it isn't just me. Hopefully, this is the struggling PS3 version, or 360 doesn't get downgraded so that it isn't just the PS3 version that looks poor (it was actually Rockstar that said they feel that graphically the game on both systems has to look equal).

And the game is not done.. Graphical polish is always one the last things that gets done in gamedevelopment, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if the finished game has better textures on the playermodels etc..

It already looks pretty good imho, lots of detail and stuff going on in the city.. It looks alive and real, I like it..

Actually, not to incite some flame war, but it was Rockstar who said the dvd restriction of the 360 was holding back the game.

edit: The also said the ps3 has its own challenges as well...

GTA has never been known for amazing graphics. I remember seeing GTA3 for the first time and thinking "wow that's ugly," especially when I compared it with MGS2 (both games released at around the same time). So if you're expecting amazing graphics, you don't even know.

Scale, scale. Yeah, I know about scale. Look at Crackdown. You could see the entire city, including the cars and all of the little people from what seemed like miles in the air, and yet, it looked fantastic. Maybe I'm just jaded, but Rockstar has yet to impress me with this game. Poor textures, poor animation, and poor models. I wouldn't even care if they stylized it, just please don't let the final game ship looking like this.

^^What he said. ALL the GTA games have been ugly. They have always been low poly , low res textures, bad draw distance ect... I'm shocked some people are saying that this game looks good, GTA has always been about gameplay. If you ever played this game because you thought it looked good and it was fun then there is something wrong with you.

Crackdown doesn't have great scale just cause you can see far from the top of a building. Saint's Row either or past GTA games. Judging from the footage released so far this game is closer to getting the scale right of the buildings and bridges than the others.

gentlemen, scale doesnt necessarily mean the size of the character to his environment. it means the breadth of the game as a whole.

So even though you've got a gigantic area to explore in Crackdown, one arguably larger than in any other city-bound free roamer ever, it isn't large in scale?

Okay.

as someone else pointed out, we arent talking about person to car to building size, but overall size of the game...as in if it had 5 islands each bigger than oblivions entire world.

Considering how big this game is and no load times, I think it looks pretty damn good. They still have a little over 5 months to work on the game. I'm sure thing will be polished up nicely by the time it hits stores.
