The only thing I care about less than CGI trailers is how much time, effort, and resources were wasted on them.

Really love this studio... I hate that they revealed the game so early though, the wait is gonna suck

I was about to say if you have nothing show nothing. But I quite enjoyed that developer diary granted I love ninja theory but irrespective of that it gives a lot of insight into elements many would disregard e.g. I would never have guessed that so much effort went into some trailers. Love the music as well.

Now just think about if all of at effort had gone into development... how much further along they would be for it. Instead they've delayed any potential progress to create a pre-rendered trailer that does nothing but exist as a standalone work.

"Look what we did instead of developing the game that this trailer advertises!"

That's a pretty silly outlook. They mentioned that the game hadn't been staffed yet, finishing another project. These guys weren't going to make a game on their own. And since they're self-publishing this they need to announce it on a big stage to generate sales.

are ya sure, because that woman in the trailer looks like a grown version of that weird girl "Kai" http://i.imgur.com/Pqc1y6i.jpg from "Heavenly Sword" who use to play "twing-twang" (which basically means kills the bad guys).

I expect this to be at least pretty decent. In my heart Heavenly Sword was a little bit underrated even tho I understand why. It was too short, too repetitive, but also was damn good imo.

This looks like Heavenly Sword in art style, which many of their games do. such as Enslaves's trip, which she looks like a future relative of Nariko.
http://heavenlynariko.wordpress.com/2010/09/29/evo...

It seems that ninja theory's artists like to retain art assets through each iteration they do. the usage of face paint and hair styles; are these key assets they like to bring over.

The trailer was running in-engine through UE4, and it looks marvelous on how well they've used the tools. here's hoping for the best now that they're publishers of their game.

Oh if you only understood just how much time and money is actually spent.

The artists that make these CGI trailers begin long collaborations with the developers so that character likeness and other in-game assets are accurately represented. None of these CGI houses goes off and makes a trailer on their own. It can take months to produce these little shorts, and that also means money.

They also serve a purpose. They not only peek gamer interest but can also attract investors, especially if you have nothing in-game to show or reveal. So CGI trailers aren't just eye candy, they're also a necessity for business.

At 00:45 in the dev diary they distinctively rule out the usage of CG for marketing their games. They also said the assets are "in-engine" using UE4, at 03:00.

The assets that they work on usually passes over to in-game. From there they start polishing (or editing if necessary) to make the game run on the platform.

It's a completely new franchise, they went to GC to announce the game and gain a following, they're very early on in development and going to share the whole process with us, the trailer was completely real time using unreal engine 4 and it's a completely new franchise with a new protagonist called, Senua and it's due out first on PS4 before they go multiplatform because they don't have the numbers for it yet. With these dev diaries you're about to see how much time and effort goes into making a game.

Especially that developer states that this trailer is not CGI.

Heavenly Sword was pretty much one story...

This seems like it could be something else completely.
