GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

Until we can show you the PS4 version later today, here are a few gameplay videos of Dying Light on PC. Since we captured them using our dedicaded capture PC, the framerate issues you can see are real with our game rig (i5 4670K @ 4.0 GHz, 8 Go RAM, Windows 8.1, Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 Gigabyte OC), which seems to indicate that the game isn't fully optimized yet. Indeed, apart from the draw distance option that clearly has an impact on framerate, lowering the other graphics settings do not seem to improve the overall experience. It's still playable, but the drops should be fewer with a GTX 970. Aside from the optimization problems, the game seems rather solid thanks to the new traversal possibilities. Melee combat has been improved over Dead Island's and fighting has become even more visceral. That being said, if you never enjoyed Techland's previous zombie series, chances are you won't find this new game to your liking either. Check out our videos and leave a comment to share your own experience.

Have you checked Precision X or Afterburner? You need to download one of the two (or your preferred program for monitoring) so you can check your ram usage.

There are mass reports that GTX 970 cards have a memory module problem, where when the card goes above 3.0-3.5gb usage, the card begins to lock up, resulting in horrible frame-rates.

I dont have all the info on this, so google it. Figured id mention it as i saw your setup, and while i know the game is new, i have not seen/heard any other complaints on other forums yet about this games performance.

I have read many complaints, even from GTX 980 owners unfortunately, with framerate drops at 35 fps for no apparent reason.

The problem seems to be cpu bound as analysis has shown that only 1 core is fully used. Drawing dustance seems to be cpu dependent, hence it's the only option that affects framerate.
It is indeed true that the GTX970 only uses 3,5 GB of the 4 GB available. However, nVidia has already debunked the reports on framerate problems because of this with showing benchmarks where it shows that the impact on performance is only 1%. The memory appears to be split in 2 sections: a 3,5 GB and a 0,5 section. They didn't explain why this is though.
Nvidia didn't debunk framerate problems. Don't fall for it. Did you read the following thread?

If this game is so single thread dependant on its performance as it seems, I am expecting poor performance on consoles.

And because of this who knows, maybe we can see another ACUnity case where XB1 performs better than PS4. Looking forward to DF analysis :)

Thanks guys for the videos.

Yey PC videos of lagging light…
But it seems to run a lot better on your machine, draw distance down to minimum?

The lip-syncing is laughably bad, I don't know why devs bother with cinematic cutscenes when they can't even do the basics right!

Seems the PS4 version is no match for PC even on lowest setting.

Hmm, not sure if you are trolling or not, but this is obviously a poor comparison. Either those are not PS4 screens, or they are just far off textures incredibly zoomed in (hence the pixelization), and have yet to swap in the hi-res textures.

Trust me, I have the game on PS4 and it looks amazing. I haven't seen anything that looks like those crap screens. This is definitely one of the best looking console games out there. The below head to head seems to agree that it holds up well even to PC on high (other than framerate of course):

The lack of anisotropic filtering on the PS4 is a weird concession.

Most notable change being the disappearance of textures at a distance. On the shack about half way up the screen, the door etc. are completely missing on the ps4 version : / so...graphics aside, how does this game play?

It seems neither of the consoles use much or any AF in any of their games which is odd considering how easy 16xAF is on PC's these days, the only explanation I can think of is it being a bandwidth issue.

I count 4xAF or lower as not much FYI so the XB1 games which have 4x or 2x still go in that category since on PC there is no reason not to use 16xAF all the time and below 8x textures still get blurry pretty close to the player.

I have a very similar rig [i5 4690K] and a 970 Gygabyte Oc, 8Gb DDR3, All at max, View distance 50% and the VRAM doesn't pass the 2Gb (Afterburner). So isn't the 970 3'5Gb RAM problem ;) JUST BAD OPTIMITZATION.
