So if the decapitated head is Mimir then i guess it will work kinda like the heart in dishonored, giving you info about things along the way. Also i doubt they are saying that Kratos is Odin, they probably changed the mythology for some stuff like in previous games
No fan of the new story idea... Just doesn't seem like a good fit for God of War.
Also this seem to be" the new thing" for Sony games, always relying on relations between two or more characters (Joel and Ellie in TLOU) which will grow tiresome if it applies to more and more series regardless of its nature.
Combat doesn't seem as fluid and fun as in previous games, either.
So I'm not entirely sold. Very nice graphics though, as usual.
I never really found the previous games all that great except for the visuals. I found the gameplay, especially all the putrid QT's, very boring. I had GOW3 for the PS3 and didn't even get halfway through it. I find this one much more interesting so far and I'm glad they are changing up the gameplay a bit. Looking forward to it.

that's because the only thing we've seen from god of war narrative so far is "ATHEEEEENAAAAA, I WILL KILL THE GODS!!!!" *RAGE* it's been a one note franchise in regards to story.

i was worried about this too, but then i played hell blade and this looks better than that, so i think it'll be great. i personally like that being close up now lets you see all the cool enemies and visceral combat. before it was a little bit
God of War needed change. Even though i loved first two games, at the time when finished GoW3 i was so tired of the same thing.
i'm sure the new one will be good and most likely best selling in series, but it's not my thing. I thought hellblade was garbage (gameplay wise) and i pray DMC would never move to similar direction. Ninja Theory failed once with DmC, now they can move away and do their cinematic experiences.
Sony still haven;t showed that Tomb raiderísh crafting system and collecting shit. I guess there must be some filler stuff to hit these mentioned 30 hrs to beat the game? Like TR hunting. Deer scene from reveal trailer was bad. :(
I am a huge GOW fan and obviously played all including the PSP port on PS3. But I was little worried as some devs have moved out from SSM. But the game director is same as GOW2 and after watching some dev videos I am sure it is going to great. Hope this game does well and live up to expectation.
God of War had to change if they were going to make another, that much was clear after their last effort Ascension. We'll see if it works out for them, but this certainly looks the part.

Well not every game has to be like this, right? Variety my friend, variety... ;) Also my concern wasn't that there ARE characters, but some games becomes a little bit too story-heavy, that does't really need that or benefit from it. A risk is that the gameplay doesn't get as much love, thats what I meant with this trend overall.
Overall these days there are less AAA games that heavily relies on very good, satisfying mechanics and gameplay scenarios IMO, and atleast to me thats a loss
But hey, we don't know yet for sure how God of War will end up of course. Just a concern of mine, but we'll see!

Except the majority of AAA games nowdays focus on live service/lootboxes, not story. But I wouldn't worry too much about this game though. Yes, they are making some big changes, it's more story focused and grounded than previous gow games but the devs have talked just as much about the new gameplay if not more than the actual story. Their focus is the 3 pillars of story-exploration-combat. All gow games are cinematic and over the top but this one actually seems to blend story and gameplay way better than the past games with those random qtes for example
I'm just glad they got a new voice actor for Kratos, he's so much better. The last guy was perfect for what they were going for in those games, but holy shit it was hard to take him seriously and would NOT have worked with this concept.

yeah, it's the guy who plays teal'c in stargate sg1. i like the fact they found someone who still kinda sounds like the old guy (especially when being all shouty)...but he has some actual emotional range which the old guy didn't seem to have at all. it wasn't like what sucker punch did with cole mcgrath when they recast him. he went from some christian bale batman sounding guy to a teenager and it was weird as hell.
