thanks blim, love the PDZ, whats your opinion on it, as everyone has mixed. Wish the characters werent plastic looking though, bat art choice IMO.
Graphics are amazing, but the game still looks dull and repetitive.

The only thing it might not have is the AI, but we haven't seen the best of that yet.
This looks better than F.E.A.R. which was an awfully repetitive experience.

Where FEAR absolutly murders what we've seen so far is its firefights. The action is horribly intense--and while the story isn't the best I've ever played through--it has great atmosphere. It has great gameplay--centered around the gun--in comparison this looks rather dull and dated in the gameplay department.
EDIT: Another thing FEAR does wonderfully is hit detection and animation--seeing the enemies body contort as you pump it full of nails in slow-mo is pretty satisfying. It's also somewhat unfair that most sites have provided HORRIBLE screenshots of FEAR--the game looks spectacular with soft shadows and AA enabled.
The only single player campaign on PC that may stack up to it this year is Call of Duty 2--which is very derivative of the original call of duty..this isn't a bad thing, since COD was an excellent game--but it does mean that FEAR is somewhat more original.
FEAR is easily SP GOTY for PC in my opinion--the global PC GOTY being BF2 (and my GOTY in general). The only thing I really can complain about w/ FEAR is that perhaps the story could be more cohesive--and perhaps that the game include more enviroments--and maybe it should be a hair longer too..10 hours is mighty short IMO--even if it is pretty standard for a shooter now.
All opinion of course--I think that comparing the technical merits here is just too difficult without seeing more of PDZ--the only thing for certain I can knock are its horrid character models.
I'm dissapointed honestly.
u guys should buy quake4. reviews say it sucks but i dont know what they were smokin. IGN and PCgamer are dead to me now. im in love with this game. as far as single player goes, its much better than i imagined and never feels repetitive.
prolly gonna get FEAR soon, but i "fear"? the possible repeatativeness.
Seeing gameplay footage of ANY FPS looks "repetitive". What makes other games different is that they have cinematic trailers out by now.
I'm not a big fan of FPS in the first place, but honestly I just could not get used to the very weird sensitivity of the stick, even after changing the controls in the options. I *really* hope this will be changed for the final release.
"the game still looks dull and repetitive" ...I take it you didn't like Halo then as whole levels repeated in it. This looks no less repetitive than Halo, and Halo was an awesome friggin game.
"This seems to be the general view - that ultimately the game is not next-gen but more N64" ...12 year olds and people who call all video games Nintendo are the only ones who have this view. Can someone please PLEASE tell me what next gen is "SUPPOSED" to be like? Where is it written that a game has to be completely friggin innovative for it to be next gen? Can a game not just be better than what came before it, or does it have to rewrite the book for its particular genre?
"the only thing for certain I can knock are its horrid character models." ...Look more closely. Pause it and go frame by frame. The models are actually quite good. They certainly aren't going to fool anybody into thinking they're real, but neither are the models in DOA4. It's an artistic choice, not a sign of incompetence on Rare's behalf.
"It looks like they are going for a "real life" look" ...In parts, yes. In other parts, no.
"This game looks pretty abysmal. Nothing good about it, except when you reload the gun, the nails on her hand look pretty cool/realistic. Was expecting some new concept to add to the FPS genre, and all I see is "repetitive" footage." ...Go play Postal or GTA:SA; let a grown-up play PDZ.
