Xbox 360

Asobo is slowly awaking from it's post-new-year's eve coma, and sent us five new screenshots of Grand Raid Offroad. Looks highly promising.

IMO the motor storm vid was unbelievable. All real time and great atmosphere and immersion. I own a 360 and love it, but games like this do not compare to what sony is promising.

Wish that were true. But this game is not showing the potential of the 360 at all. Looks a tad bland to me. Think they should copy the in car view, the craziness, and atmosphere of motorstorm if they are to stand any chance.

Check this pic out... from PS2 era rollout...
Sounds a bit like Xbox LIVE to me and that never saw the light of day.
Promising is the keyword for Sony. If they carry through on the Killzone and Motorstorm tech demos and pull that off, then more power to Sony and I'll probably buy a PS3, but Sony as a company in the console business has been doing a lot of promising since PS1 and not carried through on a lot of it promises, epecially in the area of tech demos.

I hope they somehow do manage to pull it off and really puts some pressure on MS and its developers to pump out A+ games with comparable graphics.

I have to say this. I'm sorry but you are very stupid if you believe in that Motorstorm video. This "craziness" you talk about was just a video, not a videogame. I won't bother explaining all the crap that went into that video. But when Motorstorm comes out, reality will hit you in the face. All that craziness will be gone..........

True... From what sony are showing, i'm not bothered about the graphics, because motorstorm is no better than PGR3, and MGS4 is possible on the 360. But, the gameplay in the vids looks unbelievable. Will be interesting to see if sony can pull off the amazing movement, and AI in killzone, and the immersion and atmosphere in motorstorm.... would very much doubt it.
If the Fight Night tech demo (animation-drools) is any indication, then they are full of shit.

Exactly, they were just tech demos, not games. Kind of like those XNA demos. They will never carry out with the Killzone and Motorstorm tech demos simply because they had nothing representative of real gameplay. No repeating animations will kill much of the killzone trailer graphics hype. The same for Motorstorm. I just can't believe how people believe in this crap.

You can't just say that... Might be the nuts, might not. But there's no reason why a game can't be that crazy, lol

Yes there is a reason, it's called some damn basic knowledge. For a long time to come, video games will have repeating animations, sorry to pop your bubble but that's basically a "requirement". All that craziness was thanks to dramatic camera angles, kind of like a hollywood movie, just made with a real graphics engine.........or perhaps it's just damn CG. It's also development time/costs, so many things. When Motorstorm comes out, buy it, or just when a real gameaply video comes out, the physics won't come close to that, the damage, everything.

Take Fatal Inertia, the trailer looked amazing, but then look at the real gameaply......it was just aweful, all that excitement went down the drain, nothing to see here. Full Auto too. Hey they created this awesome tech demo, the XNA crash tech demo. Full Auto's damage is not even close to that either, nor the physics, it's just a bunch of BS.

ASOBO as a small dev can't be doing that crap, they don't have the money, that's why they have released real in-game (like replays) videos/shots, even when the first videos showed some issues like pop-in, etc.

Was that tech demo for Full auto? PGR3 has better graphics than the tech demo, but the damage will probably be done by the Toca guys.
And can you link to the tech demo and gameplay of fatal inertia?

That's a tech demo FROM the Full Auto people. PGR3 has better graphics, yeah, you can only see a tunnel though, but the damage is what counts here, PGR3 has basically none.

Fatal Inertia, you can find it at gamespot.com, watch the official trailer, then the gameplay videos, of course the game is not done yet, but it won't look as good/exciting as the trailer.

Here is a nice example of Sony's promising and not delivering in their rollouts, tech demos etc.

Sounds more like Xbox Live to me.

You people do realize that the Motorstorm vid that was shown was CG right? You can't really compare pre rendered CG(scripted) to a game in realtime.

Anyway, the game is still looking damn good, all they really need to add is some tire marks in the sand and dirt.

Almost definitely not ever going to happen, because EA bought DICE, the developer of rallisport.

Check out some simulated screens of rallisport 3 tho (rallisport 2 screens done in 480p w/ 4xaa)

Of course we'll have games that look like the Killzone video, but that was hardly the point of the Killzone vid outrage. People weren't miffed because a game can't look like that this gen (they most certainly will) but rather that the video itself didn't show a real game running.
not true. we will never, ever ever see anything that compares to the killzone trailer on ps3 or x360. the poly count is too massive, and the effects used are something you can't just throw in without a huge performance hit. let's be realistic!
we're certainly not going to get those super high poly scenes in a game this generation, but games will obviously continue to look better over time.

and yeah, people definitely were miffed because no game can look like that in this generation. a game running more than 5fps anyway.

The landscapes and atmospheric effects are looking better and better. But the fact remains that the cars don't really feel like a part of the environment. Someone already mentioned the lack of tire tracks and I would add that there needs to be some "mud mapping". As is the vehicles seem far too clean.

If there's a good gameplay mechanich to back up the seemingly wide open play style then this game could be a total blast (I love free roming type stuff). It sort of reminds me of the old PS2 game Smugglers Run.
