PC images of Oblivion

PC images of Oblivion

Because I can't get tired of seeing this game, here are five new images of Oblivion, probably taken from one of the many preview version owned by the luckier of the luckiest game journalists of the planet. In other words, don't come weeping because characters don't cast shadows and the filtering is oh-so poor or whatever else, these images don't have any referential value at all. They're only here for the show, so cut me the babbling and just please yourself.

Well, it's still a 360 game.

Oh yeah, look at how ugly this game is.

Seriously man, quit gaming.

Not only is this game gorgeous, it's HUGE. I really think some people are setting themselves up for a horrible generation of gaming based on ridiculously high expectations placed in their minds by companies.

People seem to forget its 16 squaremiles, its not a doom3 with tight corridors, this is a HUGE world.
The graphic looks 9/10 for me.

To be fair not every picture looks that good. In the forum I PERSONALLY linked the 2nd shot and said I thought it looked good, so I agree some parts look excellent. But the quality is uneven & if you were excited due to the a) E3 footage and b) E3 hype where they were bragging on their 3D Rendering engine, then yes, you could be a little disappointed.

For a non-RPG gamer I can understand the graphics and the real-time elements interesting someone. The relaxing in graphics would be akin to them moving away from real-time combat for a workable, but lesser real-time / turn based system. Would it still be a great game? Yeah, but it may have just turned off say, a Zelda fan who hates traditional RPGs. For those excited about a nice graphic engine to compete against the UE3 RPGs, well...

So I don't believe it is an either-or situation, but a both. Some stuff looks breathtaking, other stuff is a letdown compared to previous footage.

I dont know about anyone else, but im gonna find a nice patch of grass in the forest and live out the rest of my days there. If i sit close enough to the screen and put headphones on, i wont know the difference. right men!?!?!

I totally agree with you - was everyone this whiny at the dawn of the last generation, or is it just that the further proliferation of the internet has allowed more people to discover the pure unadultered joy of haunting forums to bitch about whatever happens to be on topic? And TBH, I think I'm going to stay away from the internet for a little while, because if I hear the term 'next-gen' (whatever that even means) one more fucking time, I'm going to puke.

Oh, and nice screenies. This game looks tight, yo.

I like how everything looks except for the character models. The dont look that much better than those in Morrowind. The horses looks awesome tho.

My favorite saying comes into play bigtime here. Screenshots or videos cannot do this game justice when we have this game in our 360s playing it on our computer monitors or hdtvs it will look much better than any screenshot we've seen.

The ONLY graphical complaint i've seen in regards to this game (and its a constant on both the pc and 360 version) They say there is some hill really far away that looks rather low res, but everything around you looks so damn great you don't see that far off distance looking funny as an imperfection.

I know what's happened with the "next-gen" generation, they have gotten too spoiled and base everything on a stinking screenshot. Seriously, the game looks GREAT on some shots and just OK on others.

But even if this game had the best graphics ever, it wouldn't matter if the gameplay, story, sound or presentation all sucked. Gameplay rules all, even though graphics and sound just help immerse you more.

Load up Morrowind on the normal Xbox and THEN complain about these shots...

these screen looks the same as the 360 version in term of graphics. i just want to see the final build of the game.
Commented on 2006-03-14 23:26:42
Yeah, I wanna sit down and play this thing. I have so many different versions/builds/PC/360 screens and movies that it's hard to tell WHAT it is gonna look like.

All I know, is that I was at the 360 Zero Hour Launch and one of the main Bethesda dudes played about 20 mins of Oblivion and it looked AWESOME. That was an old build..

The difference between that hill and a hill in pretty much any other game is that you can actually walk, run, levitate or ride a unicorn to it and stand at the top and look down at where you came from! ;)

E3 trailer

20 minute promo from October; first ~6 minutes are on the engine
http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_1719_en.html

The second video has some great gameplay demos. But it will also explain where some of us are coming from on the engine. The 93% from PC Gamers (and they said if the bugs were worked out it would have easily been a 96%) indicate this game plays GREAT.

Then come back and give this game some love.

About the game

What's up?
  • Moonwalker
Moonwalker I checked again, their last broadcast is about 32 minutes and is about the Keep. The one after is from oct 20. (1 Hour ago)
  • Moonwalker
Moonwalker @Sdarts: It's going to be the X1 version for me. Hopefully we get to zoom in on characters too. Skyrim and Fallout 3 have that, you can zoom in/out and keep the cam there. (1 Hour ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts DICE helped them a lot with the Frostbite 3 engine and they were able to push the visuals beyond BF4 in some aspects, like the water effects. And it really shows. Too much excited to wait till Nov 18. (1 Hour ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts The camera automatically zooms out when entering combat and zooms in after, but you can change the FOV with the mouse wheel. The visuals look amazing on PC, much more than on PS4 and XBO. (2 Hours ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts @Moonwalker: To access the archived livestream videos, click on BioWare and then on Past Transmissions. Today they showed a new region and a new story quest (but very early, so almost no spoilers). (2 Hours ago)
  • Sath
Sath Main Theme from Lords of the Fallen [url] sounds great to me, kind of getting that Witcher style vibe. (5 Hours ago)
  • Moonwalker
Moonwalker I watched the X1 stream again, parts of it, i really hope so much that on console we can zoom on the character and lock it too, it totally kills immersion when camera is so far away. (5 Hours ago)
