First official Bioshock image

First official Bioshock image

Irrational Games finally released the first official screen of Bioshock, the spiritual successor of the fabulous System Shock 2. Nothing incredible visually, but nothing really bad either. And as long as the atmosphere and the gameplay are there, everything will be fine.

SS2 was great... let's see how this evolves

I've been waiting for a sequel to SS2 for YEARS. That game had the best atmosphere ever.

Looking forward to this one :)

(kids probably won't have played SS2 to understand the masterpiece it was)

Yeah, if you haven't played system shock 2 you really missed out. Bioshock is an autopurchase from me.

Actually looking at the games coming out, id rather have a low polygon count, with good bump/parallaxmapping and good HDR with realtime selfshadows than the other way around. So I think that looks good

This looks absolutely fine to me. Especially if it contains the same great atmosphere from SS2 then I'm not complaining. It's nice to see the extra detail in this official screen, there have been scans scattered around the net, really low res ones. Can't wait to see more of it when E3 hits.

That isn't a gun, it looks like a fire hose, which aren't always perfectly round anyway.

Awesome looking game and the plot sounds just as freaky as System Shock, evil little kids being protected by these giant retro-styled divers? Eviiiil

This one is going to rule. Loved System Shock 2...
Looking forward to more information about the game. (Hopefully @ E3 2006) :)

I loved SS1 and SS2. Both had a great feel and some (for a niave little 7 year old boy) truly scary moments... and no, I'm no longer 7 -- just when I played SS1, peed my pants.

Interestingly I believe this is a UE2.5 title. It looks quite good imo... if not creepy!

Yea uses UE2.5, looks ok, not really a good screen to judge from though.

I recently read a long preview in a mag and now it really is in my top 10 list, the images, the story, everything looks promising, I hope this gets a 2006 release, and if this one gets to SS2 level, it will be amazing.
I don't know about you but in my case only HEARING the sound effects of the menus in SS2 got me scared after a while, it was the most frightening game ever.

Truer words have never been spoken. SS2 is without a doubt one of the best games of all time. This buy is a no brainer!

This screenshot doesn't show shit. If you want to see screenshots that make the game look REALLY good check out that Game Informer from a couple month's back. I hope we get a movie at E3, this title look sick sick sick!

indeed, a good atmosphere can make or break a game.

haven't played any of the two earlier games but the plot and the setting is nice and sound really good

System Shock 2 and Deus Ex are in my top five of favorite games of all time. I've been salivating for something along the lines of System Shock 2 for quite some time. I hope this game delivers in a big way. It is one of my most anticipated titles this gen. If you haven't you owe it to yourself to fins and play a copy of System Shock 2, the first game that literally had me so freaked out, I nearly cried on several occasions. The story and gameplay were outstanding!

I don't care about the screenshot, it's just really nice to hear that there's a SS2 sequel in the works!

I agree. There are alot of games these kids have never played or even heard of that truly were ground breaking at the time of their releases.

And I too have been waiting for a System Shock sequel. We can't tell to much by this screenshot, but if the game has even one tenth of the atmosphere of SS2 it will be a compelling game experience.

This game sounds and looks amazing. It should get some nice PR too from the crazy US politicians.

  • digi_matrix
digi_matrix Paranormal Activity was insane, totally deserves being the most profiting indie film ever made. I saw the original version, not the theatrical one. WAY BETTER! (5 Hours ago)
  • SimonM7
SimonM7 Nope, no such prestige I'm afraid. Just 1½ year of comic making and ICQ channel community on quakenet of all places. :) 2002 doesn't sound far back but it's soon 8 years ago. Time sure does roar past. (11 Hours ago)

Megido Did you make comics and stuff for kong back in the day? The art looks similar :) (12 Hours ago)

SimonM7 Thanks :D and yeah I do. M7 was originally a webcomic, and the idea now is to make it a bit of an entertainment blog in general and a webcomic. Only done two strips so far since I rebooted it in may. (13 Hours ago)
