I don't like that every open ended game is automatically compared to the GTA franchise, but I certainly understand why. As it stands, the Outsider's story sounds a great deal more interesting than GTA's last outing.

The Outsider is a thriller where the player begins the game by being accused of a terrible crime(prehaps assassination), but can respond in many different ways during the course of the game.

The player can try to get revenge on the people who set him up, or do a "Harrison Ford/ The Fugitive" and try to prove his innocence, or even join the organization that set him up.

Aah.. this game again.. looking better now!

Just looks dark to me. Looks like they're trying to hide poor details in shadows. Hopefully it looks better over time, but to me these look very early.

I think gta sucks, mainly because its all played on the rap, gangster etc culture. Which I find extremely boring. Well actually if it was like the godfather or something id like it. But its more geared towards the new black,rap gangster culture which just isnt as appealing lol. Id like something with an actual story and not something thats directed towards the mainstream hip hop culture at the moment. So any free roaming games with actual stories...bring it on!

Interesting use of lighting and shows, looks good.

I always thought it was only really GTA:SA that stole form Hiop-Hop culture, which was a shame. I, like you, am fed up of all these "urban" games being released. Still, hopefully next-gen GTA will move back towards GTA III and GTA:VC's styling...... at least I hope ;)

As for this game, looks interesting, so long as the story is deep enough to keep me entertained, I might have to buy this. I'm hoping next-gen will mean more developers relying on solid stories etc. to grab your attention, because there is so much potential for gaming as a valid art/media form its simply unreal!

actually i loved the 2d games, gta 3 seemed alright because it was original, but I found the gameplay a bit repetative. I played it for about 3 or 4 hours then got a bit bored. Apparantly SA got the gameplay to be more fun but then it was based on such a tired subject that I cudnt be bothered with it.

I like the realistic palette and the art direction. Looks very vast. Nice to see something other than sci fi UE3!

I've always found it interesting that some people like Godfather/Sopranos gangster stories and hate Urban gangster stories. The last GTA was an Urban gangster story, but the previous GTAs were very much in the vein of Miami Vice and the Sopranos. I don't know why one particular brand of gangster is more appealing than another. It's apples and oranges really.

Maybe you haven't read any great urban gangster stories. If you read Nikki Turner's "A Hustler's Wife" or "To Live and Die in Harlem" by Aaron, you would see that there is great urban fiction out there that blows GTA SA away by miles.

For some reason the Godfather and it's many re-incarnations like the Sopranos and Goodfellas is an American cultural phenomenom. The Corleones became America's Favorite Gang and the Sopranos are America's new Mafia Family even though there is no difference in between saying "badda bing!" or "booyah!" before blowing someone's head off.

Again, it's apples and oranges.

But to get on topic, the Outsiders is not an Urban or Mafia Gangster story. It's more of an espionage thriller. The only thing that is has in common with GTA is that it's gameplay is open ended.

This looks good for xbox, not 360. I am not just wanting the best graphics possible, but this looks as bad as most of the ports on the 360. The lighting is nice, the models are terrible. Rollercoaster Tycoon people did it, and it shows.

Shot 3 makes me disagree with you. It's looking pretty damn awesome, you ask me...

Actually, shot 3 was the worst one. The guy running up the stairs is not pretty at all. Look at the grating under the rail - could not be much worse. I am not saying this will be a bad game - who knows, but I am saying the graphics are not even close to next gen. It is too early to tell, just stating what I see here and like Oonar, I am not impressed at all. Many games look very promising on this site, but not this game.
I do appreciate the operators of this site showing everything they can get their hands on, keep up the good work.
