E3: Shaky video of PS3's dashboard

Here comes a little video of PS3's dashboard. It's blurred and shaky, but anyway, you can have a glimpse of the console's possibilities (Blu-ray, online, and even keyboard & mouse support).

they really are just copying the 360 functions now though. I wish sony for once would actually create something new and exciting. Surely they have some kind of research and development team. Instead of the search and plagirise team they have in place at the moment. Having said that I suppose if I bought the ps3 I would want it to have the same great features that live does. But comeon sony put something new in thier aswell.

lol well it does need some great function to get it going. For the 360 it was gamercards and achievments. If they get something as kool and addictive as them in thier. It should turn out pretty good. But I still have trouble with the no vibration. I hope the developers program it in thier so 3rd partys can release rumble controllers.

I liked the psp interface. though it doesn't seem to be suitable for a console like ps3.. ps3 seems to big of a thing to handle such an interface.

and it makes it look very plain compared to the xbox360 one.

Hope we don't have to flick through a list to find members and stuff

Looks a little viscerally paralyzed. Can't think of any other word for it.

Hum. yeah it's defo only fot the psp, and why does this take up 25% of the PS3's total power ?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm also suprissed they didn't just make everyone buy a psp and say there's the controller.

well it uses one SPE well two SPEs. One for the OS and one needs to be given up for friends stuff when needed. And quite a big chunk of memory. I agree though it shouldnt need so much. Surely one core is enough for OS operations. Of course we will have to see how advanced the friends thing is. If its pretty advanced maybe the needing a whole SPE is justified.

Edit: infact if i was programming for it I would just not use the 2nd SPE that needs to given up. Optimizing a game engine knowing that at anytime a spe could be rendered unusable I would just not bother using it at all.

lets face it. When it comes to operating systems,Microsoft know a thing or two.
I would have been shocked and stunned if Sonys was better.
They have made a good effort though.

Well I would like to have mouse and keyboard support along with a broswer on the 360, but some things have just become a standard ever since Microsoft introduced them. So I wouldnt be surprised to see friends list functionality in the Wii as well.

lol you see im all for what makes a gaming experience work. I dont need a mouse and keyboard to play a game on a console. Nor do I want one I have my pc for that. Same goes for the web browser. I think they need to focus on the gaming aspects of the ps3 instead of this weird media hub thing.

Well the thing is, you get a Media Center for free with the PS3, with the 360 you need a Windows MC PC or a VIsta PC, and i bet the Sony version will support ever codec under the sun, there is a lot of stuff that doesn't work on the 360 (AVI and MP4).

I think PS3 will get a lot of emulator like programs, xbox 1 games on the PS3 anyone? (lol better B/C that MS)

Browsing the web on a HDTV at 1920x1080 would be sweet ..

The X-bar menu system has been around for years (2004/2004)...when I bought the PSX (DESR-7000) it had the x-bar, all they've done it update it which is fine by me because it works really well and it's very easy to use.

It's not a copy of anything Microsoft...I'd go as far to say Microsoft copied the PSX menu system.

  • Doom_Bringer
Doom_Bringer oh yea that, Dragon Age was preloading at the time (7 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Maybe.. it's different for pre-loaded stuff too. (8 Hours ago)
  • Doom_Bringer
Doom_Bringer @GriftGFX: well Dragon age extracted is suppose to be arround 20 gigs but the download was only 8 gigs or 15 gigs...procedure might be different for newer games (8 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX 45 minutes for this game would have to be like... 3+ megabytes per second. My Comcast can't do that. (8 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX My FFOW DL is almost 12.9 gigs and like 95% done. (8 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Steam appears to download extracted and installed, there's no install process once you finish downloading a game. (8 Hours ago)
  • Doom_Bringer
Doom_Bringer D2D file right now is 9.2 GB's. I think it was less when I was downloading it (now its extracted) I am pretty sure Steam works the same way. 12 gb is probably the extracted size :P (8 Hours ago)
