E3: Crackdown presentation - Part 1

E3: Crackdown presentation - Part 1

The quite controversial David Jones's Crackdown is back in video, with a 20 minutes long presentation. Here is the first half. More details below.

The developers spent most of the presentation showing us some of the "sandbox" aspects of the game. No missions, no story, no cutscenes to be seen in there. You'll just see the main character jumping everywhere, generating as much mayhem as possible and of course some car sequences, this is a GTA-like game after all. Personally I still have some reservations about this game, but it's so over the top that it could become very amusing. At least it will be if the devs take the time to rework the animation so we do not have this rather annoying feeling that this game is using the moon's gravity instead of earth's.
Technically as you'll be able to see by yourself it's much better than before. The game is smooth, the physics engine works nicely, the draw distance is ok and the city seems quite alive. We still do not really know what this game will be all about in the end, but we'll keep an eye open since it definitely has some potential.

That looks like SO much fun, if they can get everything working the way they want to I think this will be a massive franchise for Microsoft.

This game is looking better and better every time I see it. I'm really looking forward to playing it.

Well, it does look more promising then ever before... something i really hate though is the fact how stupid the gangmembers just stand there, you shoot em, and they look around like they dont know where it's coming from.. and then they die...

Was invincibilty switched on? As I did not see the life bar drop once.
Just wondering how you take damage ( or snoopers is the best crackdown player in the world) ;)

Invincibilty switched on, and IA probably switched off. Actually, I don't think the game is advanced enough to show anything but physics, interactions and explosions. In other words, they've done the sandbox, now they can start making the castle.

not to get too off topic, but it's pretty much a moot point since many of sony's lcds are made by samsung.

http://www.hdbeat.com/2006/02/23/sony-ftw/ this is pretty common, a loooot of TVs you buy are made by someone else.

back on topic, I keep saying the game will be great, it keeps looking great. the whole living comic book style they're going for really pops. I can't wait to get in there and throw some cars around

really looking forward to this. love the presentation style and the open ended gameplay mechanics makes for plenty of variety

and in reply to rjcc: yeh, i bought an LCD HDTV last year for £500, its made by VideoSeven which ive never heard of before but the actual screen is made by Samsung

If you wanna discuss the whole HDTV thing, create a topic. This news thread is about Crackdown. Thanks ;)

"The quite controversial David Jones's Crackdown..."

Why is it controversial?

Finally a game where I can burn the trash instead of be it. 'Bout time us criminal haters got a game where getting rid of criminals is the object.

It is shaping up nicely too. It has a while before it is slated to release, so no worries here.

Did I hear the guy demoing it say that you could call in fellow agency squads to help you out?

lol. actually, I think the controversy was referring to the negative feedback this game has gotten at times so far.

altho "whore throwing" as a listed achievement might raise the ESRB's eyebrow

I really like the design and the gameplay may be really good also, i like the bieng a super cop idea its something different in sandbox games like the gta serie.

looks great. It didn't look too great from the previous trailers, but seeing it in action for real like this makes me wanna go and buy it now :P

Co op through the whole single player :) nice

Looks pretty good, nice to see a different style other than just all the super realistic crap. The only thing that really bothers me is the floaty-ness of the physics, are they supposed to be on the moon?
