Actually, it's exactly ala Waverace. Itagaki explained that he wanted to do a Jet Ski mode in the game because he liked Waverace so much :)

i remember itagaki saying in an interview (with 1up.com i believe) that every 'mini-game' seen in the XBLM trailer will be in the game, such as the ass-bumping on the podiums in the water

I regret not buying the 1st one...but this will definately be on my MOST WANTED list!

They need to work on the character models more. I don't like that they all look like the same body with a different head, and a slightly different skin tone. At least vary the amount of body fat and muscle a little bit.
