Vampire slaughter-Harker announced

Vampire slaughter-Harker announced

It feels insane, but now is already the time where developers are announcing games for 2008. The Collective (Star Wars: Episode III, Marc Ecko's Getting Up) today announced Harker for next generation consoles, showing five images from the Xbox 360 version of the game. The game is inspired by the horror novel "Dracula", and that is quite a story to base a game on. See more info inside.

The Collective informs via a press-release:
“We’re very excited to be bringing the classic world of 'Dracula' to life in a new and intriguing way,” said Nathan Hunt, studio head of The Collective. “We feel this story lends itself perfectly to the survival horror genre and will create a fantastic next generation experience for gamers.”

In the game, players take on the role of a very different Jonathan Harker - hardened and ruthless - who is on a very personal mission to destroy all vampires after his beloved Mina falls prey to Dracula. Gameplay involves a combination of hunting these ferocious killers through tracking and exploration, along with an up-close and personal combat system, brutally-effective in the execution of the vampires; using a variety of weapons and environmental factors.

“'Harker’s' goal is to bring an in-your-face, visceral, and personal style of combat to the survival horror genre,” said Nigel Cook, producer. “None of these vampires are going to die with one shot. They’re going to fight for their survival, which will give the player a huge level of satisfaction when they successfully execute one.”

"Harker" will bring to life the underbelly of the 18th Century World, taking players into diverse locations, areas never explored in history books, in a gritty, realistic art style that will fully immerse players in their environments. The game also features an incredible roster of blood-thirsty, shape-shifting vampires each with their own savage abilities, sometimes hiding in plain sight; the player may never know just how close they are.

The Collective actually developed the eminent Buffy The Vampire Slayer game for Xbox, later raped by Eurocom or something and made into a sequel called Chaos Bleeds.

If this embraces any of the mecahnics found in the first Buffy game, it's gonna be brawly goodness.

Man i want to play as vampire, not as hunter. Vampires are supposed to be superior to human in almost every aspect so how can single man exterminate hundreds of vampires. And they better not put any scifi scheisse in this.

Here there is a first preview of the game... in spanish 'course...

In my opinion this game is too violent, too bloody, etc. Its graphics are very bad by now.

It'll be better to wait more.

best. sideburns. ever.

For 14+ months of development time left, I'd expect this game to improve somewhat :-) (Not saying it's bad, just it's going to get better)

Doesn't look special probably going to be released on every platform if not then they need to go back to the drawing board.

What?

....

And why in the FUCK dont they base this game on the Buffyverse? Who the hell wants to play in the Drac... aha, they lost the rights? Sorry for the rant, that explains it.

Eurocom or whoever owns the rights to Buffy better make a nextgen Buffygame ASAP (or sell the rights to someone who actually can), specially since the series stopped airing ages ago. Stupid Eurocom... if they had not raped The Collective this game would infact be a Buffygame *cries*

Uh, no kidding...So are you telling us that you could tell the quality of a game based on screenshots if they were more "informative"? Truley a prodigy types amongst us.

As for it not being a Buffy game, yeah it's too bad, but I think these vampires look cooler. The show rocks, but I always thought the vampires looked like victims of fetal alchohol syndrome.

One of my favourite vampire games was actually "Hunter the reckoning" man i loved that game, im still hoping for a sequel for next-gen consoles but this Harker thing will suffice for now at least :D

Yeah, The Collective Buffy and Indiana Jones games were great. Buffy may not have been graphically amazing, it's just the fighting mechanics. Managing to fight 4 vampires at once was great. It showed just how bad Chaos Bleeds was, sometimes it was hard to fight a single vampire, let alone 4.
