PC Xbox 360 PS3

Codemasters released these 8 images of Colin Mc Rae: DiRT, showing once again how good their brand new Neon engine seems to be. They most certainly are from the PS3 version of the game, since it's the reference platform for the engine, but the PC and 360 versions are confirmed.

Codemasters always release screens that look way better than the final product.

They look too good and Codemasters wont suddenly learn how to code a physics engine when they've been repeating themselves since colin1.

Richard Burns Rally will still remain the #1 rally simulation. Glad we have Forza2 and GTR to hold up the credibility of racing simulation.

RBR was a great rally sim. Unfortunately, Warthog were bought by Gizmondo who subsequently went bust. Wonder what ever happened to the IP ?

I for one welcome all the driving games I can get my hands on. More so, once the MS wheel come out.

1 Car in RACE. So you can push the limits for cars + track.
I'm pretty sure I see another car in one of those pics:

WOW!

That does look damn good.

Hopefully this will be as good (gameplay wise) as Rallisport Challenge.

It looks like it has the graphics down.

Indeed, it looks good on ps3, it won't looks much different on the 360, but because it's made on ps3 hardware; that version will have a little bit more beauty.

Eh, that depends on how well the port it. Also, the 360 version should have quite a bit more RAM space for textures and the like. The OS of PS3 takes a fair lot of that split 512MB away.

Does look good, but why does pic 5 remind me of RIIIIIIIIGGE RAAAACER!!! Seems strange.

Isn't it the opposit? The 360 gott 512 mb DDR3 shared but PS3 got 2 256mb banks sperated for GPU and CPU?

PS3:
256MB R Main RAM @3.2GHz
256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz

Xbox 360:
512MB GDDR3 shared memory

The upp side for 360 is that the GPU can use more than just 256MB if needed

I have hopes that this game turns out to be something great, but I also had hopes for Grand Raid Offroad as well which was all but cancelled some months ago. But let us not forget why many of us have nicknamed this developer Codesh***ers as well, because for the past few years they've not done well with their IP's. Colin Mcrae used to be a great MP racing game then they made it into a Single player game. And TOCA/Race Driver was a great IP as well then they've seemed to think that bigger and more is better which isn't always true. Also let us not forget that we were promised for months before and after the release of Toca 3 that it would most certainly would be BWC on the 360 and well the last I checked it still is not, I realize this is NOT totally Codemasters fault but they DO have a say and pull in these descicions.

Thing is, the X360 OS takes 32MB of ram and that s it. The games have the rest to use at their convenence for either texturing or other purposes. They loose 2-3% cpu on cores 1 and 2 (0 is free of OS hurdles)

PS3 takes 64MB of the main R 256MB and 32MB of the graphics memory for the OS.
Sure games on PS3 can use the main R to store graphical data but the bandwidth becomes an issue to transfer that back to the GPU for processing. It uses 1 SPE out of 7 for the OS, and another must be able to drop any processing at anytime for the OS extra processing. More, programmers must run their own sound driver on one of their 6 remaining SPEs because the OS does not provide any.

Anyway my main point is, at anytime, the XBox360 has more memory available for the applications. But that s still marginal.

Anyway, afaik the game is for PC, X360 and PS3, i expect the PC version to win the graphical quality even at the expense of the framerate (heck flight sim X is gorgeous but it s a slideshow on my high end rig).

You sir are absolutely right. It felt like there was invisible pole stuck trought thre car and it revolved around it. Jumps looked and felt quite laughable in previois colin games. Grapics looks ok. Plenty of motion blur and shared effects. Looks decent but Im still not scared that ps3 would outperform 360 on that department.
Lets just wait and see how this game turns out... Propably Im going to be more than happy whit Forza2 and GTR whit MS force feedback wheel.
