Page 1 2 3 >>Sad news. The previously announced Halo 3 Beta will not be available for every eager Xbox 360 gamer. In a press release teasing the December 4 Halo 3 trailer, Microsoft revealed that gamers will "register for the opportunity to be one of the select members" of the public beta. Just because you love Halo doesn't guarantee you will be able to enjoy the multiplayer experience this spring.
On December 4, the millions of hopefuls can go to halo3.com to sign up for the beta. You thought the Internet hit a crawl as consumers tried frantically to purchase a PS3? This could be worse. The good news is that this likely means fears that Microsoft would charge a premium to play the Beta are unfounded. Some thought Microsoft might control the size of the Beta with a small service fee, but since the Beta will be limited by a selection process, that seems highly unlikely.
The 60-second trailer airs in North America during ESPN's Monday Night Football on December 4. The trailer, which will be available online and on the Xbox Live Marketplace following its television debut, features live action and in-game footage. It promises to offer "telling new hints" about the upcoming first-person shooter.
"Halo is a pop culture phenomenon! The Halo franchise has changed the face of interactive entertainment and it's only fitting that we take an innovative approach to how we market and advertise the brand," said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of global marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Corp. "This invites a new audience with a rich back story, and continues to galvanize gamers around the world for the launch of Halo 3 in 2007."
It is not in-game, so it's worthless.
To say this shot is worthless... how freaking jaded are you?! Seriously- can't you just STFU an apprieciate this shot for what it is??? It's not 'here's an idea for the game that you may never see in the game!' it's - here's a screenshot of the commercial. That's all. It's not 'pointless'- it's a screenshot. I almost feel freaking sorry for you- to think that there are Halo fans out there that can't just accept that Halo just isn't about the game anymore- there are other avenue's of the 'phenomenon' that don't involve pulling the trigger. There are books. There is a movie. There is an RTS coming. There's a commercial. There's a third game as well- so relax and enjoy that there are other ways to enjoy the single most recognizable mascot since Mario.
the DOF effect not being "fake" (as in cod3 for instance, blurred textures -sharp edges) is the only thing that gives it away as cgi imho. so even though it is cgi, this doesnt necesarily mean the final game won`t look as good ^_^
except for the depth of field effect on the weapon, this would be easily possible in game.

also, does anyone else notice the silouhette of some type of ship / base in the bottom right corner of the dark smoke? wonder what it could be.
you mean the shots from the early multiplayer build that look like H2 on xbox?......hardly woeful seeing as Halo 2 is still one of the best looking games around right now
So it's OK for 360 games to look like good looking last gen games? I splashed money out on a 360 expecting next gen graphics, not graphics that i had already seen on a console that came out five years ago, people can go on about it being beta/pre-alpha or whatever and there still being a year left in development, but games like GoW looked good long before they came out, and Halo 3's been in development since Halo 2, the fact that they're showing a CG trailer just a year before the game comes out says it all i think, the graphics will improve before release, but i doubt the improvement will be significant.
as far as it looking as good as that CG screenshot...NO...maybe kinda close with the art style or whatever, but in game graphics allways have been, and will continue for a while to be far behind CG
take into consideration the fact that many of the screens released so far are from mutiplayer game modes, wich as you know, the graphics are dumbed down quite a bit, Halo2 doesnt look as good in multiplayer as in single player does it? no,,..now i suggest you wait for another in game trailer, or whatever from bungie.....i dont care much about the subject, but i know its not the right time to discuss it.
It's not the right time to discuss it? Not really sure what you mean by that, Halo 2 looked pretty identical in campaign and the multiplayer mode to me, the single player screenshot Bungie released for Halo 3 looked poor anyway.
what i mean is that the real time to discuss it is when the game is out and you can all see it for yourself in its final form, after all the work has been put into it. and i have to disagree , the game looks better in singleplayer..its purely rational...an environment that is going to be rendered multiple times at once is not going to be as highly detailed as one for the single player mode, neither are the character models
