Lol. Yeah but that little thing called a "Specularity Map" has absolutely nothing to do with performance. I bet this game has more going on than Double Agent even. That's not the point. The point is that these material artists are n00bs. Owned? I believe so.

Well you show them how its done then :P

VF5 has the best physics (the water/puddles are the best in a game so far, the realistic bouncing of lims and staggers ETC own all), gorgeous lightening, details and by far the depest fighting system (VF4: FT Before this).

Even rivals such as Namco and Temco dont like to compare their games with VF, out of total respect to the true master of the 3D fighting Genre: Virtua fighter. They know the score.

Along side Zelda twilight Princess on Wii, when Virtua fighter 5 comes out on Ps3 in a few months time, it'll be far the best Game to come out of this generation. Pure unstoppable, extremley DEEP gameplay and powerful visual quality.

You'll See what i mean :)

Yeah, because we all know high quality textures are totally linked to slowdowns.

Hmm so what about Gears of War and Blue Dragon ?

Well, I don't deny that this game looks good. I think most of us have made it clear that the skin is rather plasticy-looking…that's all, heh.

Yeah Zelda:TP is awesome! This may upset you, but my other console of choice is by far the 360. Let's just say...I hate the PS3 =] (I’m personally looking forward to my future 360 port of MGS4 [Kojima is a god], as well as all of the many other “exclusives” that Sony continue to lose [speaking of the devil…VF5]. Muwahaha.)

p.s. Oh and I'd be more than happy to show Sega how to make skin on the level of Sam Fischer in Double Agent. I'm not saying I'm the best, but I am skilled enough in 3D artwork, as well as 2D material artwork, to show Sega's skin artists a thing or two about realism. I mean come on; they simply took a peach diffuse map, threw it onto the mesh, and then bumped up the specularity and glossiness settings in the shader. They could have done a lot better if they tried. Just play Double Agent to see what I mean. The guys at UBI are very talented.

Happy gaming.

Hint: He is a Playstation Gamer =]

Lol, but yeah; I thought he was describing Gears when I first read it. Gears, Zelda TP, and Oblivion are tied for Game of the Year for me personally. I can't get enough of Gears. What a glorious game on so many levels.

sorry for asking a probably dumb question... But, I've downloaded the movie. Can anyone point me to a decompressor for XP that will allow the .mp4 video to play?

thanks
Commentaire du 02/02/2007 à 13:51:21
oops.. my bad. seems like my quicktime was not assosiated with the .mp4 format. Plays in quicktime with no probs. Looks quite good I must say. This couple with the dynamic settings of DoA would be a match made in heaven...

High quality textures are linked to slowdown. A game running at 60 fps having to draw 1024x1024 textures 60 times every second take a ton more resources than drawing the same textures at just the 20 times in a second.
Commentaire du 02/02/2007 à 15:34:29
Remember Virtua Fighter HAS to run at 60 frames per second no matter what. It cant afford to slowdown, freeze of shudder like Splinter Cell or whatever because with those games it really doesnt matter if the frame rate isn't constant.
Commentaire du 02/02/2007 à 15:50:36
No online multiplayer right?
Commentaire du 02/02/2007 à 16:42:15
Texture resolution today combined with pixel shader effects (bumpmapping is the easiest to comprehend) equals amount of shaded pixels that need to be filtered through the GPU each and every frame. So F**** YEAH texture resolution equals GPU load, and not just fillrate/bandwidth like in the olden days.

Then again games like GoW manage to use parallax mapped textures WITH AF (so they are higher res in the distance instead of a total blur) with smooth 30fps.

Some people know how to program, others dont. But there is of course a hard roof for the maximum performance of the Xenos GPU and ONLY the talented developers will turn that maximum into eyecandy. The rest will turn it into Blazing Angels.

Yeah, me and him are tight! We're super into shiny men aswell.
Don't worry, we're not alone. We're just the silent majority. Haters will hate, and more power to them, that's what they do best. It's not all about graphics, people, some games can just own because..they do.

Personally, I think it looks much better than many other 3D fighters (if not all of them, does anyone remember the T6 presentation?) but I'm done wasting my breath on people who don't care about the game anyway. To each their own.

Sigh.....seriously? I'm glad this genre still has a fanbase, it's amazing considering some of the comments.

Why are people bringing this up again? Specular Maps require NOTHING BUT TALENT! Double Agent's horrible performance (in some of its levels) is not linked to anything like that. DANG lol. And hardware is so good now that a shader with multiple layers of maps has virtually no hit on performance (and specular maps take up nothing at all).
Commentaire du 03/02/2007 à 02:43:02
Considering how amazingly good the gameplay is, I'm not too hurt by the fact that the characters are a little too shiny for some people.

I know the game isn't for everyone, but it's amazing how focused some people are on that single element of game design. And I thought I was picky, dang.

Lets compare it to Double Agent some more though. I like Double Agent more than Virtua Fighter because there are no ring-outs! Freaking awesome!
Commentaire du 03/02/2007 à 21:02:50
Spec Maps don't require NOTHING BUT PURE TALENT! A good spec map depends on a good diffuse map. Especially if you're going for a photorealistic look. Also a conserve energy type of feature needs to be used as the combined value of a spec and diffuse map should not go over 100% as it occures in the real world.

Anyway as far as faces go, El Blazes is surfaced 100 times better than Sam Fisher or any of the other cardboard like characters in Double Agent. All down to good surface artists.

Have at you!

I find this odd how you say Graphics don't make a game good, yet you put down other games such as Huxley because the graphics don't meet your expectations.

I really doubt Tekken 6 will look anything like what we saw at E3, I expect it to look just as good as VF5 possibly better.
Commentaire du 04/02/2007 à 20:47:26
Because Huxley actually looks far worse, duh! I really don't find the art direction offensive here, and it's a bit unbalanced in Huxley. I'm amazed to hear you talk down @ Gears of War (Graphics) and then turn around and praise Huxley--a game that's comparable in every way but ART.

And I'm not above being critical of a great games percieved average graphics, but I honestly don't think the game is horrible looking (I actually think it looks quite nice) and I think that in certain cases (most cases) gameplay is absolutely more important. That doesn't mean that graphics don't change/enhance the experience, but virtually every Virtua Fighter thread is full of complaints about the way the game looks. The best fighting game on any platform just got announced as a multiplatform title and people are ANGRY at the graphics? Come on..

Totally different games, totally different genres and engines, it makes about as much sense that this enters the thread as Double Agent did. Plus--this game actually has solid art direction compared to Huxley--though I'm not sure why we're making the comparison at all.

This game plays great, but lets not talk about that. Lets talk about how sweaty the characters are instead. I'm sure Namco will turn Tekken around, and I'm sure it will look better than VF5..won't play as well, but whatever, it will still wind up being more popular in the US anyway.
Commentaire du 04/02/2007 à 21:14:39
I like the artstyle in Huxley, I dont' like the art style in GoW... its quite simple..

And Huxley doesn't look any different now than it did months ago when it was first announced so i duno what the big deal is.

I wasn't making any comparison other than your ability to be bias towards VF.

Thing is Grift i'm a huge fan of VF5 i know its the best fighter out there so i don't need to mention its good points, because i assume that most people know this also.

I will admit that for the most part the graphics look very good, but the skln textures/shaders are just horrible, especially considering the attention to detail everywhere else i would have thought Sega could at least fix them whilst porting it to the PS3 and 360.
