Images of Bioshock

It was a long time since we heard about Bioshock. It's now done, since Irrational's FPS comes back with some new images, as 2K Games organizes a screenshot contest. The game looks as great as ever.

don't think they look worse... just a different lightning than usual.

quite ugly in screenshots, but in motion this game is full of little touches that make it look great, chronicles of riddick was the same, so many little touches in game mechanics and graphics (although it also had amazing graphics for the lowly xbox)

They rely too much on the lighting and normal maps it seems. It's like the huge visual difference between Saints Row if you move your character into the shadows and then in front of a bright light source, massive difference in apparent detail.

I can't really comment on the screenshots since I prefer to watch things in full motion before passing judgement, but in terms of the enemy you fight they seem more human than anything else. From the previous screenshots to these current ones all the enemies were just deranged looking clowns. Not to say you can't have crazies in this game just that i don't really see where's the "bio" in bioshock.

I always thought it looked a little "plastic". The movies we saw looked a lot better with the lighting and all, but still the characters, except for the big daddy's, are not that appealing.

I think the reason these look worse is because they were probably taken by the person doing the competition at 2k, they might be using their own PC, and had to run it at meduim settings.

So... this is also on PS3? I didn't know that.

Those of you complaining about the graphics: take a have a look at the pictures resolution. That might have something to do with it :)

Yeah... Well I sort of have to agree with some earlier poster (on other Bioshock related news) that the 'art direction' is going downhill characterwise. Big daddys looked great (and still do) when the first footage started coming out, but now all we're seeing is blue clowns and mental patients and other poorly done, weird mutants.

No comments on the graphics otherwise - it's in development and it'll probably look great when finished anyway. And yes... there still the actual content :)

This is what they call "soft landing".

C'mon guys, not so bad. I'm sure will look much better in motion.

Wow, MASSIVE downgrade. I really don't understand it -- that year-old, 15-minute walkthrough was obviously real-time and appeared to be running on the 360 (the HUD had 360 button mappings), and looked incredible. This looks worse than Condemned.

Well this looks on par with the Demo video.. Non?! no? I think it does ;)

I said that too when I first saw those shots on Team XBOX. All the other shots looked much better then these lastest ones. I don't get why that would be though?

I think it's because there's a certain fogginess in most of these shots, compared to the higher contrast environments shown previously. It's like someone has the gamma up too high. Look at the grey haze behind the enemy in the 4th shot... This makes the areas (and the player's gun) just look a lot more flat. The last shot, which is higher contrast, looks much better.

What's up?
  • Doom_Bringer
Doom_Bringer oh yea that, Dragon Age was preloading at the time (7 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Maybe.. it's different for pre-loaded stuff too. (8 Hours ago)
  • Doom_Bringer
Doom_Bringer @GriftGFX: well Dragon age extracted is suppose to be arround 20 gigs but the download was only 8 gigs or 15 gigs...procedure might be different for newer games (8 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX 45 minutes for this game would have to be like... 3+ megabytes per second. My Comcast can't do that. (8 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX My FFOW DL is almost 12.9 gigs and like 95% done. (8 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Steam appears to download extracted and installed, there's no install process once you finish downloading a game. (8 Hours ago)
  • Doom_Bringer
Doom_Bringer D2D file right now is 9.2 GB's. I think it was less when I was downloading it (now its extracted) I am pretty sure Steam works the same way. 12 gb is probably the extracted size :P (8 Hours ago)
