After more than a month, the wait is over: here comes the one and unique Gran Theft Auto 4 trailer. I won't say a word to avoid any spoilers, except this: it looks frackin' awesome. Really. Rockstar's blockbuster will be available on October 16th simultaneously on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Yes and no:
We saw a very beautiful car, we saw water, too. We saw that GTA finally gets rid of its close-to-cartoon-style and looks much more 'real'.
However you are right about the speed-up scene. Note that the speed-up was in the only scene where pedestrians could be seen. I'm quite sure that they still have problems with making 30 pedestrians in a street look 'real'.
1) the way a single person walks <- looked sometimes stupid in gta3
2) the way the crowd behaves <-
real pedestrians: walk / stand and talk / look at shop windows
gta3 pedestrians: walked and looked straight

EDIT: I just jused the pause-button viewing the vid. The pedestrians still walk like they shit in their pants. When they make a step they bend their knees too much and their bodies centres of gravity is unnaturally low then.

texturing is pretty crap, and so is some of the modelling, but compromises have to be made for a game on this sort of scale so theyve found the middle ground, hopefully they'll add more effects and bump mapping etc, cause it looks very playstation 2 in that way sadly

=/ Sorry to say this but I was still left slightly disappointed, first graphics wise the city environment was just gorgous with all the eletronic billboard ads, the residential area also looked good but slightly flat textured. And then everything else looked poorly textured, even the main character. I was really hoping for some PGR3 quality environments.
Still looks like they are using the same character animation as before =/
Poor textures on the character still make him look cartoony.
I wont mention the obvious drop in frame rate outside the themepark, opps I just did, its forgivable still early days.

Immigrants taking over New York, possible Russian Mifia involvement, I'm still hyped to play this game.

Just watched again, lol cant imagine how cool multiplayer would be in this game. I really hope they have a co-op.

LMAO. I do admit, this trailer could have been better. Not only that, but the materials look a little low-res. I hope this is not a result of the game having to be dumbed-down to fit the BS3's limited 256 video ram versus the 360's 512 available ram. Granted, this type of game requires a lot of main system ram, but even Saint's Row looked better. Maybe it's just this trailer...

The graphics pretty much look like i thought they would, it looks like a nextgen gta. But I`m still pretty disappointed by the footage shown, I mean they made such a big deal about it and all we see is some standart nextgen graphics, and no gameplay innovation at all. I was hoping to see some new ideas or anything that could give you a feel where this game is heading. Rockstar, if you want to hype me for your game, show me something interesting and not only some "pretty" pictures.

I feel like this generation we're being scammed with a lot of games now to believe something that they aren't
If this video showed our main character moving around these environments I would be a lot more impressed, but theres no way to gauge what this game is truely like otherwise

I dislike GTA games as well actually, I think they exploit a cheap form of entertainment
Perhaps it's just being an older individual who remembers playing games because they were fun without being over the top violent and extremely sexual
It is probably more appealing to the generation after me

Sounds like an awesome story, amazing detail (when the car rolls by the metal on the road, it makes the proper noise), MUCH better graphics than SA with a great draw distance and that's all anyone can ask for.

I'm sure they'll nail the gameplay as always.

Also in the vid; "America's next top Hooker" hahaha.
And the building called "GetALife"

Can't tell much, looks lovely, but they need to make things klike shooting and combat smoother, aswell as make the gameplay deeper to make it a different game to SA.

Well, it got my attention. Being a completeting non-gta fan and pretty much hating the whole premise of the previous games, to me thats something.

And didn't you people see the LIGHTING? I thought the lighting looked really nice.

I'm interested, if they show some innovation game-play wise, and some very high density of actual environment and not just empty buildings;, like i heard the last gta was, I might consider buying it.

Unless of course, Mass Effect still has me interested by the time GTA IV releases, which it probably will.

Indeed, thanks for the MP4 Playsyde. Somehow it felt right downloading and watching this on the PS3 :)

I'm very glad that they're back in New York / Liberty City. I just don't like Miami and LA all that much. Graphically it looks solid, certainly a notch up from Saint's Row. And the art looks appealing, unlike Crackdown.
I think that visually The Getaway is going to be better, but we'll just have to wait and see about that.

Anyway, can't wait to see more. I'll be grabbing this one on day 1.

It does look nice, but it's only on par with Saints Row. Lighting and realtime shadows were the main innovation in that game and GTA IV doesn't seem to look better. And the textures in the trailer don't look as good as in Crackdown. So GTA's graphics are good, but nothing to be excited about. However GTA has the better gameplay.

Yes it does. It looks awesome for GTA, and I'm sure that in other areas (design, art direction, story, missions, humor, etc) it will blow Saints Row away.
