Gamersyde Diaries: Episode 5

Gamersyde Diaries: Episode 5

2007-05-03 14:00:00 by snoopers

We're not going to lie to you, we've gone through hell with this fifth episode of Gamersyde Diaries. Not much to talk about in the gaming news world, no real help from the publishers either, several technical problems on the row, in short, it was no piece of cake. But enough with all the whining, the show is here now and for good.

On today's menu, a report on the most important event of the past few weeks: the PS3 launch in France. Also included a preview of Shadowrun, would-be candidate for the title of best online FPS for console owners and eventually a peek at some of the games coming to the new Games For Windows platform: Halo 2 Vista, Age of Conan (a MMO also coming to 360) and World in Conflict, the new RTS from the makers of Ground Control. Enjoy!
Update: HD version available, Bittorrent recommended!

starting with the PS3 launch events in Paris it was really an interesting show - thank you guys. one minor gripe though: the comments regarding Halo 2's "out of date gameplay" i found a little bit out of place and not very professional.

Why is that not professional? A lot of people think that Halo 2's single player was a step back compared to Halo 1. Halo 2's SP is *totally* dated, more so than Halo 1.

I agree, especially for a PC FPS game Halo2 is very outdated (and slow).. Not worth the 20 bucks imho..

Shadowrun looked a lot better then before, but I doubt it will be a succes on the PC if they limit the player by locking the mouse-sensitivity etc to balance things out a bit with controller players.. Not being able to set those things to your personal preference is simply rediculous in a PC FPS game.. I think it will still have plenty of players that will play it to check out the new thing of playing PC v console, but it won't last long..

Great show. Interesting features about the Conan MMORPG and Word in Conflict. Shadowrun now looks like a miss to me, it didn't interest me one bit and only looked like chaos in action.

Only complaint are the subs: please shorten the average lines size. Don't have one single very long line of text, break it up into two short ones. That makes it a lot easier to read the subs.

Really nice show..I must admit I didn`t like French people that much before I found your site but you guys friggin rule! The vid looks really professional btw.
Other than that I´m still intereseted in Shadowrun because I don´t care for single player modes in FPS`anyway! The Online mode should be nice, even with those flaws although the thing with only 2 spells mapped to the Controler IS a major turnoff!
Cheers
PS: Conan comes to the 360 as well, doesn`t it? Looks a 1000 times better than WoW!!

Best GSD ever! Loved the Paris outdoor views, the background music, and the usual gamer-centred perspective look at the upcoming games for multiple platforms, done independently and unbiased.

This really is the greatest show a gamer could look for.

Plus, I had a good laugh seeing the reaction of people at the PS3 launch when the Xbox 360 boat showed up... It felt like being there. Great coverage.

Thanks a lot for this awesome HD, high-quality, and highly valuable work! You rock :D

well, a lot of people felt that the SP campaign left something to be desired compared to the first Halo - me included. but this is a matter of taste in the end. however, the basic Halo gamepay remained untouched and with duel-wielding and the possibility to capture convenant ghosts and tanks there were also some nice tweaks added to it! it's a shooter, so please tell me what exactly should be dated about it? there are a lot of so called Next Gen FPS that not even offer a decent co-op mode - let alone any convincing AI!

Halo 2's campaign offers some pretty amazing levels such as New Mombasa and Delta Halo and like in its predecessor the quality of the AI and the excitement of the firefights - epecially on higher difficulty - still remains as a benchmark for other FPS to come.

Yup. The grainy images on the PS3 launch were done with the HDR-HC1.
