Gamersyde Diaries: Jade Raymond interview

2007-06-09 16:05:08 by snoopers

For this new GSD, enjoy an exclusive interview of Jade Raymond, producer of Assassin's Creed we had the pleasure to meet during the Ubidays. Frankly, we were afraid nothing would come out of this little talk as the game is still under high secrecy, but Jade didn't hesitate to reveal a ton of new details about Assassin's Creed in this twelve minutes long video interview we're offering you today.

Metroid series are the first games that started that i think, where u start wit all the abilities and stuff, then lose it all in the first mission. Then u gain it all back and even more, throughout the game. I know other games started to do this lately, just cant think of them at the moment.

She is so cute and slightly nerdish. You must pardon our indulgence blim, but there is a lot of testosteron on this forums. Snooper gets a red badge of honour for this courageus interview.

Hiiiiiii, Jade if you reading this ;)

Very interesting comparison when you also think about how exploration is a major part of Metroid and Assassin, and how exploration is bound with the abilities you gain through the game.

Once again, great episode. The diaries are quickly turning into one of my most anticipated weekly events.

I noticed you guys have been spending some time at Ubisoft Montreal over the last couple of episodes. Any chance of a Splinter Cell: Conviction interview in the near future?

Yeah, ever since SOTN Castlevanias have been very Metroidy (hence "Metroidvania" nick names)

It's not as good a comparison, but Kameo similarly had you all powered up on the first level then took them all away.

Thank you :) We'll have something on Splinter Cell. I can't say if it's gonna be a diaries or not, but we have an interview, we have footage, so you'll get something in the end anyway ;)

I think nerds and geeks should lay down about this whole Jade is hot and such. This is about gaming and I am sure she doesnt care for any nerds keep saying she is hot and such. She is making a great game and that alone should have a big respect, at least from me.

Sure she looks great, but whats her thinking and intelligence is what counts, and she sure has it, so show some respect okay.

I for one can't wait for November for this game.
Well the first thing to get right is she isn't remotely hot. She gave a pretty damn goodinterview in french and seems to convey her design philosphy well. That said, she's around a 7.5 or so. Nothing to get worked up about. That interview was the first time I had seen her close up.

Sir, I'm detecting strong chauvinism in this sector!

Jade is truly amazing. She is a pioneer for all women in the digital entertainment field. I hope she gets far and reaches an iconic status for future women in the industry. She's already the female "Cliffy B".

Just goes to show how immature this industry still is when female developers cant speak without getting their gender pointed out to them by girly little geeks.

Google a name like Ada Lovelace, take a nice hot cup of stfu, then observe history in the making.

Oh please.
People don't comment on cute girls with other professions? It's just a fact - she's cute and people will comment on it. Not out of being sick man-pigs, but because she's attractive. Not because they wanna imply she ISN'T smart or DIDN'T get to where she is by being clever and good at what she does. I have no idea how compliments turned into such a bad thing.

That said, some comments are man-pigisms certainly, so I'm not condoning that, but most are lighthearted and good spirited.

Some people are very, very, very immature. That's the reason for all the boulet time.

"[speaking french].....throwing knives....[speaking french again]"

That made me laugh. Pretty interesting interview I thought. Not sure how I feel about the whole Metroid Prime thing of starting out with all your gear, losing it, and spending the game getting it back. That's not a gameplay decision I have ever wanted to see copied, as I think it's rather tedious personally. I was glad to hear there will be more to the game than "this is your target: kill him and escape" like the pick-pocket mini game, ect. Did she imply there will be more such mini games that further the game and mix up the gameplay more? Also, did you guys try prodding her (no innuendo, I swear) on the subject of the time travel/virtual reality/psych patient/whatever rumor that leaked a while ago? I'm curious how that's going to fit into the game when she has specifically said since that it isn't time travel.

In the 1up interview they had with her they asked about about the virtual reality/time travel thing, and she said that more will be said about it at a later date, probably E3 im guessing. I personally think its a biological, extracting memory from the cells of a decendant of the assassin type situation.
